Lol, yeah. I wanted to think of a new project to do for myself since I think it's pretty cool with other people trying to make new breeds or colors for existing breeds.
So I bought some turkens and I have a polish rooster...
I was hoping I could get some advice on how I should go about mixing them.
My goals are:
naked necks
long legs (like the polish)
A big poof on the head and
A V comb like the polish have.
Unlike the Turken standard, I don't want a bow tie on them.
With these goals, I wonder how I should start, If I should have Turken hens and a Polish rooster or vice versa. I still have time since the Turkens I have are 2 months old.
What are the harder traits to aim for? With that in mind, should I try to get hard traits first or have a base mix that I just work on?
Also, if anyone has any other traits that would be cool to try and aim for, just mention it

If anyone wants to do this with me at one point we can swap eggs and get a decent gene pool going on.
Thanks for any help

To be more organized and easier for the casual looker I put pictures of my starting group

Turkens:
First up my Turken rooster, Kratos he is redish black colored He has no bow-tie. He's awesome.

Now there are his ladies I have two that are like the white/buff color and one has a bow-tie and the other does not. In the background Is a red/brown girl and I have 3 that look like her.

Then I have 1 black female and It's a absolutely terrible picture, but I thought I took more and now it's dark so bleh...

I also spent a long time looking for a all white girl and finally found one but she is only 2-3 months old. I like her a lot as well.

Hehe Yeah It seems pretty cool in my mind.

I'm kind of impatient, so I might end up buying older birds to start breeding right away. But I'm hoping I'll get a good foundation plan set so I can get it rolling in the right direction.

nom nom.. I agree!

Years ago I did this same project with buff laced polish and it was fairly easy. Take the offspring with TN's and cross them back to the polish. Continue for about 5 generations. The TN gene is dominent and will show up in some chicks with each cross. They did not catch on as well as I thought they might so I sold them all. Everyone said they were ugly and looked like the had a flower attached to thier shoulders instead of a head and neck. Mine all had the bowtie though so not sure how to breed that out.

Oh wow this is so cool!

I agree with Jeff- the best is to simply keep a naked necked bird each generation and breed it back to pure Polish. The naked neck is dominant so to get naked neck babies, you must have at least one parent with a naked neck. The reason for breeding back repeatedly to Polish is while the body type will be easy the other traits like good large crest is pretty hard to "make" and apparently involves many genes so it will be way easier to get good birds this way.

The bowtie is much harder and may not ever happen for you to get completely bare necks. I've bred hundreds of naked necks in all sorts of combinations and only one line ever produced birds with totally bare necks and from that line it seemed there was another gene or something involved because it threw bare necks left and right while I tried to get bare necks in other lines and no luck at all.

One more thing.. the crosses will tend to have a medium to large bowtie patch, however you can breed two naked necks together, after the type and traits are well set otherwise and you will get some pure for naked neck.. those will have a much smaller bowtie with just a few feathers. Who knows, you might even get lucky and get a few with completely bare necks.. I would not be concerned with the bowtie sizes in the first few generations of naked neck x pure polish crosses for this reason..

Sounds pretty good! I have gotten 8 Turkens including the rooster, and then I have a polish rooster that is splash colored then 2 hens who are growing up and are Black with white crests. One of them even has a beard.
As far as color, I'm not aiming for anything specific, I rather like mixed random colors (which is probably why I love easter eggers so much) But maybe further down the line i'll aim for specific colors.
So if there are some people that can follow me and maybe help me out, I will get more specific with my birds that I have now.
I have 6 Turken pullets who maybe around 2-3 months til they lay and another female that has another 4 months to go.
Some do have bare necks but the majority have bow-ties.
The rooster that is with them has a bare neck.
I only have 3 polish

but one is a 7-8 month old, and it's a rooster. the other two are young pullets-maybe 3 months old.

If y'all would like me to, I can take pictures of each of them--I'd be rather amused by that.

I could get some feedback on them specifically.

I used Buff laced with muffs and a beard, but I have had several other polish colors and all had muffs and a beard. i guess those without are not common in my area even all the silkies aroung here have muffs and a beard, even with the TN the beard and muffs carried over on the first generation. Good luck and i like the idea of mixed colors. All of mine were buff laced.
