This morning, my son was playing with one of our Rhode Island Red hens and got too "playful" ... my husband found the chicken and thought it was for sure going to die. But, he put her in a nesting box just in case she might rally...which she did. She was pretty mellow after reviving but is seeming to act normal... just very subdued. However, one of her eyes is permanently closed.
I am afraid my son poked her in the eye...but I don't know for sure. It doesn't look bloody or swollen or anything, just the eyelid is staying down. Is there a chicken vet? I am so new to raising chickens. I don't even know where to turn. I am afraid to even touch her eye because I don't want to disturb her more. I am wondering if this is a normal kind of healing mechanism or if I should look for an ointment or antibiotic ...
She was born around the first part of March. Any ideas???
