I am lucky enough to have a 6 year old boy who isnt attached to a t.v. That being said when you have an active kid who loves to be outside and also loves his 25 month old chickens things happen....He took it upon himself to start feeding the girls frogs he has been catching in the pond.Need less to say when he came in laughing his butt off and he told me why just as proud as could be I was a little shocked. Its probably alright as long as they are getting something for grit right?Chickens are birds and I suppose if given the chance they may get one while ranging.Does anyone else have any idea if this is going to have any ill effects I hope not as they are doing well and growing quickly.

Chickens are omnivores... it's totally natural!!! Great protein

I can't imagine there will be any ill effects, as long as they're getting grit. They were probably totally psyched and your son will be their new best friend!

P.S. Congrats on your son not being a TV-zombie. My DD hasn't watched TV in 5 years and she's a great reader/writer/naturalist/musician/photographer/artist/etc, probably helped quite a bit by "no TV".

I kinda figured theyed be fine its just a food option that never occured to me.He said they loved it and were running around with it like crazy. They will definately have a varied menu around here once I dare to let them free range.I just worry about the local cat population so they need to get bigger first.

My grandpa used to raise meat chickens. He would have at leas 200 chicks in one pen, and me and my sisters would through one frog in the pen and watch as one chick grabs it by the leg, runs off with it while being chase by 20 other chicks. Then the chick would drop it and another one would pick up right where the one left off....those were the days....lol

I don't particular like watching them beat the poor frog to death first
