For those who use a dog kennel for a coop, I'd love to see pictures...

We are temporarily using a dog kennel as a coop. During the winter we put tarp around the entire kennel and used heat lamps. The chickens faired really well. I bought an aluminum shed to use as a coop but I was wondering if any of you use a kennel as a coop and if so, could you post pictures of it.

we also have chicken wire 1/2 way down the outside of the kennel fence.

Those are great! I'll never look at a Little Tykes house the same way again.

When my daughter is done with hers I may have another use for it.

We do not have a 'coop' with ours yet. We are using the kennel as a coop. We have green poultry type fencing over top with a tarp over that for when it rains. the sides are still covered to keep the rain/sun/critters out. Inside we have perches, a dog igloo house, some milk crates and a rabbit hutch. We have pine shavings and straw for their bedding.

I was wondering if you could use one of those plastic/little tykes type playhouses. They are everywhere on Craigslist here. Can you post more details about the design & what you did inside?

For more photos and details visit our BYC page: we are using an old dog run. For reinforcements we used old wire fencing over the top, zip tied into place. Ran chicken wire completly around the bottom. We took more of the used wire fencing, bent it into an L shape, zip tied about 2 ft to the run, pinned about three feet to the ground with landscape pins and let the grass grow through it.

Check out the very practical and cozy coop my DH built for our eight happy hens,

We used a combo of new and used materials, we already had the run and the whole sheebang cost about $300. Our hens have been paying their rent beginning in May, for the month of June we got 104 eggs-way to go girls,

Here are more pics! My dh put plexiglass on all the windows. Built a base for the floor. Put the pop door in under the window. Attached a nest box inside one of the windows. (attached to the base) And added a latch to the door.

Won the playhouse on ebay for $50.00!

Oh and the kids are sitting on the perch!

I used to, but within 2 months of having it, a possum crawled up it and went through a small gap in the door and killed a show winning rooster. So, we don't use one anymore.

Here is my setup from last year - a hutch in a dog kennel. It worked great - put chicken wire over the top of the whole thing and a tarp over half of it to keep the rain out a little. I only had 3 pullets then.
