greenwell springs,La.
i saw the turkey walking in a circle pecking at his legs
i thought maybe he got into ants
i caught him and looked and he had a small cut on his leg no ants
later i noticed it was bleeding he kept picking at it but it was almost dark and he flew up to roost i figured he would leave it alone and forget about it.
the next day i saw him limping and pecking at his leg and had pecked about 1 inch of skin off
i caught him and put poroxide on it sprayed it with liquid bangage and wrapped it with gause loosely to keep him from pecking
then he started pecking a sore on the other leg
i rapped it up too
then he started pecking above were the bandage was so i wrapped both legs up loosely it look like he has socks on
the legs are wrapped were there is no feathers
is my turkey on crack? lol is he crazy?
he seems to be trying to eat his own legs
i dont know how long to keep the bandages on
he is not limping today eats and drinks well and only picks at the bandages now and then
what you think
any suggestions
i dont want to lose him it is my only gobbler
any suggestion would be appriciated

He like's turkey legs ? I mean who doesnt ?
lol
Im sorry idk whats going on maybe he likes the taste of the blood I have some turkeys too theyre kinda umm..Dumb

I would put vasoline on them. See if he likes the taste of that. Maybe sprinkle it with cayenne pepper too. If it is mites the vasoline should drown them. I have 2 white broad breasted turkies. One follows me around and is sweeter than most of my chickens.

VetRx is also good to keep them from picking; I'd recommend all the mite treatments and spray vetrx on top to keep him from wanting to taste it.

What level of protein feed is he eating by the way?

If he had mites on his legs (scaley leg mites) you have to coat the leg with vaseline to suffocate the mites so they die.

were would you buy vetrx
20% flock raiser is the feed

VetRx you can get at most feedstores. Any kind (rabbit, poultry, etc) will do. You might also be able to find it at Petsmart as Marshal Pets Peter Rabbit Rx. (Same thing, different brand.)

For anti-picking, you'd just wipe it on straight. Buy the small bottle.
