My white chickens have so much dirt and filth on them that they look more brown than white. I think it's extremely unbecoming, and I want to bathe them to make them look nice and white.

I've never done it before; can anyone explain the easiest way to bathe a chicken? Thanks!!

fill a big bucket with warm soapy water, and insert chicken. they love it really, and my dd swears they love to be blowdried too

are you supposed to bath chickens? I never have but Im newer. They have a dustbath with sand, dirt, and DE. I t hought they just took care of that stuff on theri own. Should i be bathing them?

Folks that exhibit, bathe their chickens all the time. This is something that I'd like to learn to do also. I plan to begin showing eventually and there is a lot that goes into getting a chicken ready for a show. I know there's a difference between a bath just to look nice and grooming for a show, but I do imagine that there is a lot of similarity in part of the process.

You don't have to, but my white chickens get dirt all over them and it's just ugly. I want them to be snow white.

And yes, they dust bathe, which gets rid of mites and such, but if you're a white chicken the dirt stands out, you know.

I hope so! Miss north says they like it, anyway...

Do I have to use a special soap? Or can I just use dish soap? Is there a special way to get the dirt off? Do you have to scrub, and if so, doesn't that mess the feathers up? Do you then put her in a second tub to rinse the soap out? After the chicken is clean, should I put her in a cage to prevent her from rolling in the dirt?

I just want them to look nice, that's all.

nope just use some dish soap. Hold its feathers and put its body all the way under. Just dont do the head. If there is any access poo or anything on the bird just rub the feathers between your fingers and it will dissolve. Once you are done with this rinse them off just like you did in the first step except their is no soap. Then blow dry them or towel dry them and they will be squeaky clean.

Does anyone know whether bathing them undoes the natural benefits of their dust baths?
