Can you just put electric poultry fence around the whole area of the planters to keep them out? Leave it up for the growing season then take it down after harvest and let them in the help with the cleanup.

Fix seems to be working. Too bad garden not coming in worth a darn.

Personally, I would not use chicken wire, but instead either shade cloth or netting. That way it's easily movable for your access, and may help with preventing song birds access to your crops.
