I've finally finished (almost) my coop & run, here's a few pics.

The shed is 10 x 16. I went 1/2 way in and built a wall inside with a regular door, this gives me access to the coop area which is 8 x 10. Inside there are 4 nest boxes, 2 9 foot long roosts, and an overhead light fixture. The building has electric ran to it. On the North wall, at the top, I cut a hole in the wall and installed a rain proof vent on the outside. On the West wall I cut the access door for the chickens. The floor is covered in about 3 inches of pine shavings.

The outside run is 20 x 16 and is framed with 4 x 4 posts that are 2 foot in the ground & 2x4 runners & supports. It's 6 foot tall. The gate is 2x4 construction. The fencing is standard chicken wire.

I've not installed the hens access ramp into the coop yet because they are all about 10 days old. I have the access door covered with chicken wire and they are all in the coop under a heat lamp. I have 17 pullet chicks that I bought from Atwoods & I think they are either red sexllinks or RIR. In my incubator I have 33 buff orp eggs that will hatch next week. I plan to cull out all but 15 hens for laying eggs in this primary coop & run.

I also have these two port-a-huts. I'm going to turn these into breeding mini-coops by adding an outside run to each. The runs will be framed with PVC pipe and enclosed with chicken wire. In each of these I'll have a rooster & 3 hens. Both will also have the standard stuff, roosts & nest boxes, and so on....

So, there you have it. As you can see from the photos I've not covered the top of the run but I will if it becomes an issue with predators.

Best Regards,

Matt

I don't mind at all. It makes for a really sturdy gate that swings easy & true.

Thanks for all the comments everyone. I'll post more pics of the breeder pens once I have them done. Rather than PVC frames I'm going to use treated 2 x 4 studs, it's just easier for me.

That looks fantastic! Also, I can't help but notice your nice flat property. That would be so much easier for fencing and building. Be sure and post pics when you get your breeding pens done.
