I'm Really Sick of This...Poison Options?

I am betting dollars to donuts it's a raccoon because it has killed five birds tonight, ate the guts out of them all the way up to the neck but hasn't touched the breast meat.

It has taken out 3 small and two full-grown birds.

I'm betting it's a family.

Whatever they are, they are not getting trapped and leg-hold traps are not working.

What can I use to poison these things. I am absolutely sick of it and don't care what animals take off with the poison at this point. None of MY animals are going in and out of the pen and everyone on my block knows that whatever gets into the pen is dead.

So, any ideas on how to kill whatever it is?

My experience with raccoons isn't like yours at all. My chickens were taken away, except when they got scared off .... that chicken died anyway because of injuries.

But in any case, whatever is after them needs to be stopped, and i think i would likely be staking out the chicken coop with my shot gun tonight.

Hope you get 'em.

I've tried staking out and no matter how well I hide, it never shows when I'm out there.

It only comes early evening/early night. It will NOT walk on flour.

Had a problem with this previously.
Baited leg traps as follows:
feed the flocks eat
eggs
raw chicken

then placed poison grain in with the above

:(Perhaps you could consider an electric wire/fence around your coop before you go to the poisoning method? Some of this stuff requires a license plus I would be very leery of handling it esp. if you have kids and pets (not to mention yourself).

Nearby, I have raccoons and skunks, coyotes and foxes. We live next to a 10-acre tree farm, lots of open space. My chicken set-ups are inside an 8-foot-high chain link fence with cement as footers, then the coops have poultry wire. And three dogs with doghouses about ten feet from the chicken coops. So far so good, but I know better than to think I'm in the clear!

Unless you solve the problem of how the preditor(s) are getting in your pen, you'll continue to have problems with preditors that like chicken even if you manage to poison the ones that recently got your birds.

Are you locking up your birds in a preditor proof coop or are they loose in a pen at night?
