Hi,

We are finishing up with a molt, I think....finally!

We have 1.5 year olds and 6 month old buff orps.

I have never seen any evidence of worms but should we go ahead and deworm now while we are still not getting many eggs? How long do we have to throw the eggs out for?

I read alot of posts on deworming but there must be a simple way of getting something and just giving it to them in their water or something isn't there? If we SHOULD deworm them I would like to do it before they start laying eggs good again...

I live in central MN...any advice is so much appreciated!!

Personally I don't worm prophylacticly. However, if you feel you want to worm your birds I'd recommend Ivermectin. It's a cattle pour on that is effective against both internal & external parasites. It is not labeled for use on poultry but for cattle there is no meat or milk withdrawl period. Most assume that this would hold true for eggs as well. Apply a couple of drops on the skin under the wing.

Just make sure it's Ivomec Eprinex Pour-On, not Ivomec Invermectin--I'm sure invermectin has a withdrawal (doesn't it?). I've used Eprinex, 1/2 cc on the skin on the back of the neck though you can do as NYReds says and put it under the wing. And, we eat the eggs because of the no withdrawal for meat or milk, as was stated previously.

Will this also kill mites if there are any? Haven't seen any worms or mites, just wondering...I'm in the same boat as OP, would like to worm if needed before the birds go into Winter Quarters.

EPRINEX

(eprinomectin)
Pour-On for Beef and Dairy Cattle

With the highest level of parasite control available, EPRINEX gives you more. More strength. More speed. More productivity.

EPRINEX

(eprinomectin) Pour-On is the strongest, most potent
parasite control product available. EPRINEX is the only endectocide proven to increase milk production and offers the following advantages:
Broadest spectrum of control, including biting and sucking lice
Fastest acting
Longest lasting
Zero milk withdrawal
Zero meat withdrawal
Weatherproof formulation
Odorless
Non-flammable
EPRINEX controls more stages of internal and external parasites than any other parasiticide for cattle. In fact, EPRINEX kills more of the fourth-stage larvae that can hinder the performance of dairy cattle and kills tailhead/udder mange mites, sarcoptic mange mites, lice, grubs, and horn flies that can cause irritation and reduce milk production. Even at 14 days post treatment, EPRINEX is 99% efficacious against Chorioptes bovis (tailhead/udder mange).1

EPRINEX is indicated for the treatment and control of:
Gastrointestinal Roundworms, including inhibited Ostertagia ostertagi
Lungworms
Grubs
Sucking and biting lice
Chorioptic and Sarcoptic mange mites
Horn flies

Yes, that's the smallest size bottle I've seen, too. I only have five bantams, so that would probably be a lifetime supply of the stuff for me. Hope it keeps well!
