Speckledhen-you truly do eat the eggs? I was so hoping to find a treatment that I didn't have to toss 2 weeks worth of eggs away, especially now that I'm starting to get some customers!

Speckled Hen- Why can't I use Ivermectin, its cheaper and I dont plan on eating the eggs, that's okay isn't it? Do I have to use Eprinex? I have less than 15 chickens.

invermectin What?
Pour On Or Injectable?
Pour on is $20 Bucks a bottle and that is what I use. The first time use wazine to kill roundworms and prevent backups. Then buy invermectin POUR ON and put 3 on for a bantam ( thats what i use fro my cochins) and 5 or maybe 6 for larger birds, bye there neck area. This way is slowly releases through the skin. Invemectin injectable or in the water isnt nearly as effective.

All these VERM X and DE work but arnt PROVEN. So you dont know whether or not it works, regarless of what it says on the package.

any to further my input
YES WORM!
Worm with Wazine 17 now.
In 2 weeks do invermectin

Then EVERY 6 months with invemectin.

Thanks to threeehorses who educated me on this subject.

Isn't it safer to just add a bit of food-grade Diatomaceous Earth to their food every day?

I do that, but I'm more in need of an effective way to get rid of lice/mites and the eprinex does that plus worming. And...you don't have to toss the eggs for 2 weeks the way you do with ivomec/ivermectin. The eprinex/ivomec is a different kettle altogether and I am so glad that I found this thread, because I really didn't want to do the ivomec/ivermectin due to that fact alone! BTW-the DE is more of a preventative than a cure, but hey, I like to cover all my bases!!

I read something about that in Backyard poultry, the person seemed to really like pumpkin worming. I sounds good. But one pumpkin wouldn't do it. Same with garlic or dandelions. I think you would have to limit that to be there food for 24 hours. This would run you about the same cost, and would "hurt " The bird just as much as worming with chemicals may "weaken" the birds as some people claim. The birds would have malnutrition and especially if they are producing eggs. It is also not proven pumpkins really work. You never really know. I think you should give pumpkins either way especially people old pumpkins after Halloween. But a chemical ( not overdone) would never have you worry about worms and parasites.
