Will be a sad weekend... =/

I'll "help" a woman to "take care" of her redundant roosters. Right now it feels pretty all right, what feels the worst is to think of her, poor thing. She seems to have attached herself to some of them substantially.

(Never do that to animals that you know you can't keep, it's hard i know, but try!

)

Oh, I BET that i'll almost cry in the beggining (hate doing the "kill part"!!!) even if it is'nt my own animals it's so sad!
Well, they will not die in vain here (food) witch they have done (killed and wasted) if she didn't wanted me to "take care" of them. So, that is a good part of it...

And she is very happy about that (that they will come to benefit).

It's 7-8 roosters i think...

OUFF! Massacare!

Step to step pics will come (NOT), and maybe a video to (YES)... And warning, don't be chocked about the way we stun the animals here (swings his head into a hard object, it can look a little bit brutal i think for people that are not used to it). Don't worry. They lose consciousness at once and it's a LAW here to faint the animals before bleeding. I will be counted to animal cruelty if I dont do it. And as I said, the lose their consciousness at once the head hit the stone, or table etc... And they'll never be able to wake up again becuase their dead before they can (and the reason to faint them is that the head may be still living after the head is cut of in some seconds, the head dies when the oxygen runs out of brain).

Wish me good luck...... Or something.

fainting them would be too much for me. chopping the head off...fine...but bashing their head against something...EWW!

Be happy that you don't live in Sweden then and don't need to do it.

Personally i prefer to faint them and always do... But i think it's becuase I live here and it's "normal" in my eyes and ears like some people think it's normal and humane to cutting the carotid artery (there i say

Nothing personal but Oh yes its much more human to bash there lil brains out! OH COME ON!!!!
Im totally against any animal cruelty and laws have their place but that is just rediculus. I know its the law and you only doing what you have to do. This is not directed at you. But at all the stupid animal rights people. Like I said I am all for a less painful process but geez!!! I wonder if any of the people making the rules have ever done any of the work they are writing them for???????
BUT any way, Good luck or May it all go quickly and painlessly for every one involved. I know when It comes time for me to do the deed It won't be easy. I love all animals. even the ones I raise for food. I just try to remember that this is what they are here for and have been from the beginning. It don't make it any easier but I just keep repeating that to myself. AND yes I do well-up when I have to do IT. I just hate the thought of anything living suffering. Especially at my hands. Thats why I try to do it quickly and keep a sharp knife.

Be safe, Good Luck and God Bless!

Nah, not "bash" them out. =/ It's just one hit, then it's over on one sec. It's very hard to not make them faint i think, i have never missed, some birds dies at once by the "stunning" instead of just faint (THAT IS FAST). As I said it can look cruel, but it's a very fast dead. And i knew that some should react like you on it. =/ We all have different views on what is best. But as long as the dead is so painless and quick as possible, it's the most importent.

Maybe I should'nt show you our way to slaughter in pics (thinked that some may be intressting... But maybe not ?)

*scared to get attacked by people that thinks it LOOKS horribile, but maybe not think to mutch before they write? ><*

I always stun the quail before chopping heads off. It isn't nearly as scary as just whopping a head off. You're not bashing their brains in, you're stunning them, knocking them out. It makes it easier to get a clean cut too.

I've seen slaughter houses process chickens, and they stun them (with electricity actually) also. The woman who processed our chickens last year is Slovak (like dh), and that's how she did it also!

Stunning before bleeding is how my neighbor does her turkeys. She walk up behind them with a hammer handle (no hammer head) and one quick wack to the head she stuns them, hangs and bleeds.

Linkoso - good luck or fast processing. Never easy but it needs to be done and the birds are not going to waste.

I get attached also - even to the ones I do not like and even the ones destined for the table - it is never easy to take their life.

When you stop and think about it...if an animal has its carotid cut, it is still conscience while it is bleeding out. It is not instantly dead. A quick blow to the head will stun an animal to keep it from feeling the dying effects that bleeding out would cause.

Its similar to a quick snapping of the neck and then bleeding out. Its instant.

I guess its all about what you learn and what you are comfortable with.
