Lets see pics of your PALLET COOPS!

I just built one today but it went up so fast I forgot to get any pics. The whole thing went up in bout 4 hrs and cost zero dollars by using free pallets and scrap lumber I dumpster dived for to build our first coop. I even ripped one pallet apart to fill in the gaps in the floor and back wall and ended up using the cross members for the roosts and used the old nails where they were applicable. Our new flock is waiting to go outside so we will kick them out of their indoor brooder in the morning. This is a very ugly coop but like I mentioned it was free and tons of fun to make something super jenky. I did not once use a tape measure and obviously no level neither. I have no door figured out yet but it might end up being the pallet seen in the photo. Yes those are 2x4's screwed down to fill the gap and "support" the roof. Ventilation!

It will be in use for about two months until we add them to our main flock and then might house some meaties later in it once it is out of the run/soon to be coop again lol. Ran out and took a couple pics in the dark. Yay for the flash feature! I'm really looking forward to seeing other pallet coops! I've grabbed 13 pallets and used 5 so I wanna see what I can do with the rest. You know, there is no such thing as having too many coops...

Ours is the garden shed which was in our garden when we moved in! It got battered in some bad English weather and my Daughter's toys were ruined so I had the brainwave to turn it into a chicken coop!

My Daughter and I scrounged up wood, nails, paint, etc etc and ripped out all the unecessary fixtures. Was fabulous fun! Then we fashioned a feeding and watering area (all with the wood we ripped out) perches (from old shelves) "ventilation" (we unstuck the windows which had been painted shut) and put in nesting boxes. These were the most technologically advanced part, consisting of 3 laundry baskets. We sawed out a side hatch, put bolts on the door and painted the interior and exterior. voila! Peckingham palace for free.

Our chickens had a fabulous life in there! Me and friends even used to spend summer evenings in their petting our feathered friends! there is a chair, radio, lamp, mini disco balls, cupboards, coathooks and plastic bins for the food and bedding. Rusty, the late Cockerel, sampled many a fine wine in there!

Now my beloved flock are gone, it's been given another make-over ready for our battery rescue hens!

I'll put up a picture when I can find my camera!

P.S-Does anyone else find the cost of poultry housing extortionate?! I could house myself in luxury for a year on what they charge over here for hen houses!

What a great idea using pallets to build a pen/coop! (Brain running in overtime trying to see if I can do this.... which means I can get more chickens) LOL! I would love to do something like this for the pullet stage before they are big enough to go to the "Big Pens".
