Some one layed a little green "fart" egg. Here is a (bad) picture of it next to a penny:

I'm currently debating with to save it or open it and see if it has a mini yoke or what.
 
That is a tiny egg. One of my golden wyandottes started laying and her egg is a little bigger than yours. We crack it open today and there was a mini yolk. My 8 year old daughter commented, "if we hatch the little eggs, they would be tiny runt chicks, right?" Yes I replied, but they are cute..

What on earth causes this? I have had three in the last month. One of which had no yolk! Crazy.

Just the girls systems working out the flaws, most don't lay them after the first couple months.
It's so small, I'm surprised you found it.

It was sitting in the middle of some other eggs, I'm glad it was or it could have gotten lost in the bedding.
