So I have this 12x16 shed that I am going to turn into a chicken coop. It has no windows and these humongous double doors.

I've layed out a basic design, but I'm sure that will change a little as I go. Here's my interior design...

And then after today........

I also installed a window on the back of the shed as well. However, this faces the woods so it won't let much light in. The front will get all day sun and I wanted that really open for light to come in as well as the nice summer breeze. I got the windows for $5 each from a guy that was remodeling his house. And he said that I could raid his wood pile whenever I wanted--SCORE! The door is a heavy exterior 36" door (so a wheelbarrow will fit through) and I got that for a whopping $15!

I still need to finish the door, seal and trim out the windows, repaint (obviously

) but this is my start. My husband is going to run electricity in there as well. I have already got the insulation and paneling for the interior. I'm so excited!!

But I'm stumped on a color to paint it. I'm NOT going to re-shingle it so I need some help in figuring out a color. My house is tan. It doesn't necessarily need to match my house -after all, it's green now and that definitely doesn't match!-but I would like it to coordinate with the shingles somewhat. Any ideas? I can repaint those windows too-that's no big deal.

Gimme some suggestions, come on!!

HEY GOOD JOB!!! It looks totally different.

If you've got a scrap board with the paint that you have, take it to Lowe's or Home Depot and they can match it. (I actually like the color, lol) go with a Light Tan, er, Sand trim, or a pale grey like the shingles.

ETA---never mind. Looks more teal than green to me, lol. Go with a teal blue.

That's going to be a great coop! I can't tell what color the shingles are...greenish or greyish??? I'd go with a tannish shade that complements the house...maybe with white trim for contrast.

:)That will be a great coop! I can see it painted a gray from the roof color with the door and some window boxes painted a tan to match your house. Bright flowers and green foliage plants to set it off and tan pavers would look nice coming up to the door. We are starting a coop project as soon as the weather gets more spring-like. Can hardly wait!

How about a cream/light tan body, matching (to shingles) green and both light AND dark gray trim (like how Painted Lady Victorian homes use more than one color in the trim pieces)?

It looks great already!

ETA oh yeah, definitely some flower boxes painted with the same four colors!

Looking forward to seeing finished pix. Lucky, lucky you. How many chickens are you going to put in there?

Thanks for the ideas!! I'm going to go raid that wood pile tomorrow for some trim for the windows. My kids are loving it already. We currently have 28 chickens total and 2 turkeys. I need to downsize on my roo count. My hubby is getting my chicken plucker done, so soon I'll be down to 24. I hand plucked last year...THATS not gonna happen again

I'm leaning towards matching that green, trimming with the tan that matches our house and hand painting sunflowers on the sides--big sunflowers, bright and cheerful. It's an idea. What d'ya think??

I do like to make things unique and with those flowers, it might really set it off! When facing the shed, on your right I have lilies there and they're already popping out of the ground. That is the side I'm thinking of painting those flowers on. This is the side that everyone will see. We have the kids' play-yard on that side, when you drive up the driveway you'll see it. So I think it'll be really eye catching and look nice. I like the gray idea, but I'm not sure if it would match the green shingles.

Anyway, I'll keep you posted as it progresses!! Thanks! And if there's any more suggestions, feel free! BTW, I'm going to take the bench out of the interior design and install a permanent folding chair...that way I can sit inside with the chickens when I want and when I'm not in there, I can fold it up and not have to worry about chicken poo on it. Sound like a good idea??
