Hi, I just hatched my first round of SLW. The parents were ordered and marked so I could tell the roos. I've read that being rosecombed can make it a little harder to tell, but does anyone have any other signs to look for in this breed? Can you tell early with these guys or not until the typical 4 weeks? They are 2 weeks now and I think some of them have larger looking combs, but it could just be me. I appreciate any feedback from experienced Wyndotte owners!

They are one of my favorite breeds and are so pretty!

I have 7 Wyandotte chicks and 3 of def roos. They all developed combs faster than the pullets. At 2 weeks, I was already noticing their combs and a hint of red. At 4 weeks, the combs are bright red and still larger than all of the pullets. Hope that helps.

Thanks so much! I am checking that site right now. I was hopeing someone had some info on this. I have read there are some ways of sexing certain breeds, but I wasn't sure which ones. Thanks again!

I have 12 SLW chicks....I got them straight run.....1 has a yellow comb, 11 have rose combs....however.....the rose combs are rectangular in some and triangular in others....pinkish in some and darker rose in others....some have almost no wattles, others have some and others have huge....all the legs look the same to me.....some have more white on the feathers and some have longer wing feathers....I have read about a dozen different ways to sex my SLW's but all the rules seem to contradict each other?

HELP!

still needing help....last night I looked at my twelve SLWs all roosting and looking right at me.....could it be that I bought 12 straight run chicks and 9 of the 12 are roos? One has a comb about like my black sex-link's.....two others have no wattles at all.....but 8 or 9 look just alike and I just don't want that situation!

They must be around 9 weeks old (late Feb?) I will try to post some newer pics....these are a few weeks old:
