I have a young bantam Gold Laced Cochin Cockerel who is probably around 12 weeks old now. He has had this lump on his beak/nasal area for at least a couple weeks. It has been getting bigger and bigger.....
What the heck is this?
He does not act sick.....eats well, normal appetitie and activity level. It appears to be right where his nostril should be.
1) What type of bird , age and weight.
Gold laced bantam cochin, approx 12 weeks, appears normal weight
2) What is the behavior, exactly.
Large lump on face
3) How long has the bird been exhibiting symptoms?
At least 2-4 weeks
4) Is there any bleeding, injury, broken bones or other sign of trauma.
Just the lump.
5) What happened, if anything that you know of, that may have caused the situation.
No idea, I purchased him at about 8 weeks old and the lump appeared within a week or so.
6) What has the bird been eating and drinking, if at all.
Eatin flockraiser and drinking water. Offered scratch, grit and scrambled eggs (good appetite)
7) How does the poop look? Normal? Bloody? Runny? etc.
Normal
8) What has been the treatment you have administered so far?
Nothing
9 ) What is your intent as far as treatment? For example, do you want to treat completely yourself, or do you need help in stabilizing the bird til you can get to a vet?
Treat self.
10) If you have a picture of the wound or condition, please post it. It may help.
See below.
11) Describe the housing/bedding in use
Pine shavings, currently kept in quarantine shed in garage
I would like to move him and his buddies out to my main flock but want to figure out what this is first. I did have him with another larger cockerel for a couple weeks, who did move out to the main flock a couple weeks ago and is fine.
