Hi,

We got our hatching eggs 19 days ago, and put them in a cool room untill the next day...we then put them into an incubator.

Does anyone know if the 21 days begins when the eggs are actually put in the incubator or when we received them? Also, the Brinsea instructions on the incubator says that we can remove the lid every 6 hours while the chicks are hatching...but I read elsewhere that if we open the incubator at the time of hatching it could harm the chicks:(

I'm concerned about the humidity because we have to add water twice a day already, and I don't want the humidity to get low during hatching.. but maybe the hatching eggs will contribute to the humidity level...I just don't want to do the wrong thing and harm the chicks

THANK YOU!
Pamm

Hi Pamm, welcome to BYC!

I count the first full day in the incubator as Day 1. If I put them in in the morning, that's Day 1, if late in the day, the next day is Day1.

I haven't any experience with the Brinsea, but I have had to open during hatching and sometimes it's okay. Just keep a close eye on your humidity, which will rise as hatching begins.

Happy hatching!

Hi Pam,

I have the brinsea 20 and add water through a real thin straw pushed down the opening with the water mark. I got it at a hobby shop. I think they use them for antenae's/whip's for the cars. For lock down, you might want to cut up some toweling, put it in each well, and lay it over the flat portion. Put the grated rack right on top.
You can see how I've done it on "my page".
Good luck with the hatch!

Brenda
