My ode to back yard chicken. by Natalie Davies

oh from my very first starting hatch,
back yard chicken was my perfect match
with storys, pictures the forum to share
a helping hand, people who care.
people who know what your going through,
people to help, telling you what to do

a friendly smile

friends for life are found and made
for all those who incubators brave,
even those with a broody hen
can find help and advice no matter when.

so if you find your in a flap,
turners bust, or tempreture laps,
humidity has gone and went
your finding all your energy spent
i have fom good advice for you,
until the end, to see you through.

logon, join up, come on in
ask all your qeustions

dont feel so dim
back yard chickens for all of us
for all those with the mothering touch

the father and mothers from chickens to geese
be it poultry or waterfowl to say the least,
you'll find a friend, your problems you'll share
the good

and the bad times

with people who care.

and when your chicks are all round and fluffy
your bators empty, your playing mummy
you know you'll not be turned away,
for when you join your here to stay

so listen to me do as i say
for back yard chicken is an
'egg'citing way

or to make it easyer her it is

Have decided what to do have dragged kara from her normal day to come help me where going in next friday with 3 of kara's silkies and we have asked for 4 more embden egg's which Kara say's she may try and turn her hand too off the nice lady who i brough my set off we will take them with us as she has promised to send the latest to the date she has next wednesday Kara will do the talking and has wrote some key points down to do with eggs and hatching with broody's and with bators and so i didnt feel left out she asked me to write a poem or something nice and easy as children respond more to easy listening at that age or so im told so i got 8 day's to write a poem but i need your help please tell me what you think and if ive missed anything major out that needs to be said.

I am an Embden goose,
of that you can be sure,
I have a very long white neck,
and webbed feet on the floor.

I lay some very special eggs,
all large and white and round,
and if where at a duck pond,
there the largest to be found.

Yet be warned dont get too close to them,
be warned and stay away,
for if you get to close to them im sure to hiss and sway

so if you want to see us all,
small, round and fluffly,
i'll tell you to be patient child
it doesn't happen in a hurry.

to see us all so soft and sweet,
it'll take you 31 days
and only if you put us in
an incubator made

it has to be quite perfect,
for us to hatch out right
with lots of warmth and water
even a night light

yet if you can be patient,
and turn us thrice a day
you may be rewarded
when you candle us tenth day

for if you see red veins appear
inside within my shell
its my way of showing you
im growing very well

now carry on turning us
dont leave us all dejected
and maybe on the 16th day
you'll see my shadow reflected

we are over half way there now
so dont sigh and turn away
keep turning me three times a day
and listen to what I say

day 26 has finally come
your hard work now has ended
candle us one final time
and see how we've extended

then put us back and lockdown tight
our incubator that day
for we need no further help
we know the natures way

and when the 29th day comes
dont be at all suprised
if you are near our incubator
and hear us cheep inside

so if you see a little dent
then appear upon the shell
this is called me pipping
as I break the airsac's swell

I break the membrane carefully
and very soon I'll zip
dont worry if it takes me long
sometimes I stop to kip

when finally im out of my shell
dont steal me straigh away
I need to dry my feathers out
its better off that way

yet when all is said and done
and I am nice and dry
take a look at me
yes look at me
how beautiful am I?

let me know what you think.
