I tried the food coloring in the vent last night and it does not work. I was so upset to find non-colored eggs. Does anyone have any other ideas.

I think they're trying to figure out who lays which eggs.
But really. Seriously. Putting food dye in the vent -- to me -- says you're gonna get multi-colored poops all over the place. It's all gonna come off on the poo, ya know. Unless, of course, you're just dying to identify each plop of poop with the pooper that did it!

I'm gonna take a stab in the dark here and say it depends on the food coloring. The kind you buy in the box with 4 colors...the dropper bottles. That's all water based and will dry quickly. The kind you get in the little jars for coloring icing...that is much thicker, almost like a paste. It won't dry very quickly. I would try putting some of that on with a cotton swab.
You will get rainbow poop though
You might even get colored spots in the coop if they rest their heinys anywhere. Pick a color you can live with!
