DH and my 3 boys finally moved a wood pile today that was just outside the chicken and duck coops. Look at what they found in the pile. This guy was pretty fat. Just and Eastern Garter snake, but still looked mean. Glad he got moved too because we have chicks and ducklings hatching right now.

I would have run away! Ther's NO CHANCE I would hold that thing! My dogs in Virginia used to kill off all the rat snakes as fast as they sniffed them.

The BIG garter snakes are the females, the males are only half that size. Easy to see who's the boss in their family....
Can't see them getting chicks, (our hens put the run to them, even with no chicks) but they sure clean up on mice and frogs
 
I don't usually mind snakes...but that snake looks so mean! I don't think I've ever seen such a large garter snake. He's been eating well!
