Has anyone used "Vetericyn" for birds?

I was thinking of trying Vetericyn to treat the scabs on my chickens infected with the dry version of avian pox. (vs betadine or iodine) Has anyone tried this product with birds?

The website claims it is as safe as water to use so it could be used safely around the eyes, and it even says it can kill viruses. I had one hen with the wet version and she didn't make it, so I am trying to do all I can to prevent the other guys from contracting the wet version. I used this product on my horse for a puncture wound, and in a little over 2 weeks it was totally healed up and scabbed over, so I know the product works well for injuries.

I represent Vetericyn and I would be happy to explain how our products work and what Vetericyn may be used for. Vetericyn is not meant to replace any medications or medical advice previously given.

Vetericyn is able to safely be applied to birds not intended for human consumption. Clinical data also shows our products will destroy most single celled pathogens like bacteria, viruses, and fungi. However, I am not aware of any specific case studies done specifically for avian pox, wet or dry.

Vetericyn is very effective when used to speed the healing process of open wounds, irritated skin, and sores as well. That's what I thought.

Has anyone ever used Vetericyn for the treatment of avian pox? What are your experiences with the product for that specific use? Did it help, did it hurt, was it useful or not? ALL opinions good or bad of the product are what I am looking for.

Sorry, I haven't used it on pox but I have used it on an injured hen. My new dog got ahold of one of my barred rock hens. She had a 3" square "hole" on her back just above her tail that was about 3/8" deep. I used Blue-Kote for 2 days but then got Vetricyn for a nasty cut on my colt's leg so I tried it on the hen too. It healed so quickly I was amazed! After 2 weeks, her feathers have grown back in almost completely when I wasn't sure she was going to live in the first place. Way better than the other stuff! The rooster also got plucked pretty good on his back but I can't get close enough to spray him. Same amount of time and his feathers are just starting to come back.
 
I know this is an old thread, but just in case anyone is searching for the same answer I wanted to chime in- I have used vetericyn for everything from abscesses and cuts to frost bite and what may have been pox scabs on my roosters' combs. I have noticed speedier healing and less likelihood that a wound will heal incorrectly (like sealing in infection or with too much or too little scar tissue). I like the fact that it doesn't leave a gooey residue like some antibiotic salves do (and then salve base can actually hold in dirt and germs). I have an old rooster who came to me with a history of MG infections (bubbly eye) and once I incorporated vetericyn as my first measure of defense (if his eye looked even slightly irritated, I'd wash his face really well w/ the product) we haven't had a reoccurrence of the actual full-blown infection. The roosters who had scabby combs that I was able to catch and scrub the old blood off then apply vetericyn to the spots (pox or gnat bites- didn't confirm which) healed up much more quickly than the roosters who refused treatment (read: hid in the barn rafters)- the untreated roosters have visible white scars where scabs were, whereas the treated guys don't.
 
So now I am wondering if the cat dog horse Vetericyn plus is safe to use on poultry as I just purchased it and saw it says cats dogs and horses and to not use it on horses meant for consumption. So I looked up Vetericyn and I see there's one specifically made for chickens /poultry. Can I use the one for cats dogs and horses on my chickens and do I need to remove them from the food chain, if so for how long?

I’ve looked at labels before on all vetericyn products they seem to be all the same ingredients basically. I used that one on one of my hens with an injured beak and it kept it from getting infected! As far as the withdrawal time on it I’m not sure if there is one or not.

Although this thread is really old, I thought I would reply to your question. Sometimes, they make "special" products for chickens and birds and mark up the prices. There is no withdraw period for vetricyn.
