My first time ever of attempting peafowl hatching resulted in 12 peachicks hatching out on June 8th. After they hatched out,I moved them to a brooder box with a heat light, ect located on the end of my dining room table. They stay here until about 3 weeks of age, before I move them to a larger brooder located out in the garage.Of this first 12,we got 1 Bronze peachick to hatch out. While in the house brooder box, this peachick would always want attention when the waterer or feed was put in for them. We always cover the box with a bathtowel the first week or so,but occasionally leave the towel off the top, since the sides are 2' high. About 2 weeks of age, this Bronze peachick learned he could fly,and started flying up and sitting on the edge of the brooder box,as time went on,he would then fly from the edge of the box,and land on the top of my computer screen here and just sit and watch. A few days later, while I was watching tv on the couch about 8 feet away from the uncovered brooder box, this same bronze chick got FAA clearance and soon became a regular watching tv by me.
I had to move these peachicks out of this brooder box 1 1/2 weeks ago, because we had 17 more peachicks hatch, they went into the garage brooder box. This has happened to me twice now,,but when opening the door to feed and water these older peachicks now,,this same bronze chick sees me and will "strut",,it's tail feathers will stand straight up,,and the wings drops a little, and it just stares at me and moves closer.
First of all,is this a male? Remember it is only 1 month old now. Will this bird become a "dominate" type as it gets older? This same peachick has gotten a lot more attention than the rest, since it always come up to my hand during feeding time, and will jump on my hand and hang on for a "outdoors look-see" as it perches on my hand.Maybe it is spoiled? Suggestions?
