Well...thought I'd post the updated pics of our tractor. It is essentially finished. May bring the roof line down on one side for extra protection, but we're very proud of it!!

I want to build one like that. Did you get plans from somewhere. I could not just build it from scratch, I can do a lot and I am pretty handy, but I think for that shape and all, I would need plans. Nice job.

No plans...I basically copied it from Forsham. It's one of theirs that I liked! Believe me if me and my 13 and 11 yr old sons can build this ...you can! It really wasn't so hard!!! On the Forsham website all they have on dimensions is the height and length in metric...I just converted it which on this design turned out to be approx. 7 ft by 3 ft. I'd be happy to answer any questions to try to help you!
 
That's great!!! That's the type of thing we were considering for our tiny yard. How many chickens do you have? Do they stay in the tractor all the time? How often do you move it? Does the poop get scratched into the grass or is it icky to walk on after you move the tractor? Smell?

Thanks for any imput you have on this: we're trying to decide if this is feasible for us to attempt.

No smell...but as I said we move it often. For example, I'd had some foil pans with dirt in there for them to dust bathe in and they'd loved it of course and thrown dirt out....since it was to rain we took out pans of dirt and moved tractor over so it wouldn't turn into a muddy mess...but we'd just moved it a few days earlier. We have five....4 pullets and 1 roo. Of the pullets there are two RIR's, SLW, and a BA. Oh and no smell either! They spend the majority of their time in it....when I get home each evening weather permitting...we open the end and they free range for a little bit but they are so used to their home that they don't roam far!
 
This is exactly what i want to build. Do you happen to have anymore pictures? I'm particularly interested in the nesting box/roosting area.

wow I like your coop! I think I might try something like that....
Does that panel remove for a reason? How do you let them out to free-range? and did you use treated wood?
