Hi Everyone, I am chicken sitting for a good friend, and found one of her younger pullets on the ground last night, unable to stand, or walk, or bear any weight on her legs. The details are below, as are photos and how I am treating her at this point. Any and all suggestions would be greatly appreciated to help save this sweet little girl. Thank you!

suess

1)Barred Plymouth Rock, 4months, not sure of weight.
2) Bird is acting alert, but cannot stand on either leg. She was fine in the morning and when I checked on her in the evening, she was laying down, with both legs to the side. If I hold her up to eat or drink, she has quite an appetite. When she flaps her wings, her wings are very strong, only the legs seem to be affected. Her comb seems a bit pale.
3) Since last evening.
4) Only on her head where the older chickens pecked at her.
5) I don't know of anything that would cause the situation.
6) Layer crumbles and water only.
7)Normal looking poop.
8) Added a bit of apple cider vinegar to water for electrolytes, and a couple of drops of GSE for antibiotic properties in case of infection. Giving 4 drops of Poly-Vi-Sol as well, since comb is pale.
9 ) I will be treating the chicken myself, at least until the owner returns on Tuesday morning.
10) Photos are below.
11) She was in a henhouse using deep litter method, hanging water, feeder and roosts. This was the first night she apparently could not roost as usual (she was roosting and seemed fine in the morning). I have now removed her and brought her to my house and she is inside, in a brooder bin with screen top. I have layed a small 1/4 cup measuring spoon in front of her that is a combination of her usual crumbles and the acv/gse/water mixture, which she seems to like a lot. She eats about half, and then I replace with some more, especially the water. I also added some plain yogurt which she loves, and ate quite a bit of, for flora/probiotics.

She has been on the intensive B therapy today.. hope that this will help. Appetite still good, and she's still drinking water, and otherwise very feisty.
Any advice would be very welcome.
Also, none of the other 5 birds seem ill or affected in the last 24 hours since she collapsed.

How is her weight as compared with the others?

A pale face and comb is often an indication of worms. Has the flock ever been wormed?

Thanks for the response - I spoke with her owner, who is on the way home, and her comb has always been pale.. they have only had these girls two weeks, and they are young, not laying yet. The other birds are all fine, and very active... I'm thinking if it was Marecks it would have spread and affected the other girls by now, after almost 48 hours since she was down?

It may be wishful thinking, but she seems feistier today, and when she kicks with those legs they are really strong, they are just off to the side, she is unable to stand on them.

Also, as far as worms, I see no evidence of worms or anything abnormal in the stool. Her weight was the same as the other girls as of last night.

Thanks again for the response.
