Haven't got permits from the city yet, however, that hasn't stopped us from getting ready. The kids and I painted the nesting boxes / feeding box.. and the inside of the coop's ceiling. My husband made the boxes a couple days ago, and put the insulation/plywood in the ceiling this morning, before going to work!! So excited at the progress! I am going to pain the rest of the inside of the coop for easy cleaning and to give more light during daytime hours... I need to decide if I want to pay for more insulation/plywood or if I want to skip that and paint the walls, as the coop is sided stopping drafts. We need to figure out ventilation for the winter as the summer with the 4 windows open works awesome (as I painted in there today). This has been so much fun!!!

So A few days later, the coop has been set in its final resting spot. The vents have been put in... My husband did an awesome job!! Starting to build the pen, while I finish up painting the inside of the coop and the nesting box and feed box with the kids. Daddy's litttle girl is a big helper!! She cant wait until we have chickens and her brother can hold them and she will pet them... that's what she says anyway!!!

Your coop is awesome. I love the portico. Wish I had thought of that! I am subscribing to find out the results of the BIG meeting coming up! Best of luck to you!

Your helpers are really enjoying themselves. Love the parti colored cocker (used to breed & show Cockers). The coop I mean Chicken villa is beautiful . Bet you felt a little claustrophic standing inside tho, is it short or are you tall?

Actually, its both.. I am tall and the coop is short. It is really a children's playhouse that we thought we would convert over to a coop. At the chance of the city coming to inspect our coops we wanted to be sure it would pass. We found it on Craigslist for a great deal. Luckily I don't feel clausterphobic in there, Although I haven't been in there with 6 chickens, a roost, nesting boxes and feeders/waterers. I can comfortably stand up in there... painting the ceiling was tricky... I added a couple years with the white hair that came out with me. My kids thought it was great that I had "white hairs" Our helpers are thouroughly enjoying every moment of preparing for our little pets to come. They can't hardly wait!! Our dog, Tanner, hence the coloring

It's just as cute as it can be! I just love the playhouse/chicken coop. And to top it off you found it on Craigs list. Lucky you! I can't wait to see the finished run.

A couple days later and a lot more has been accomplished!! The pen is looking pretty good - needs a roof, some sand, a pop door, hardware cloth on the windows and a few chickens and we will be in business!! We had a yucky hot sticky humid weekend, and an awesome morning this morning. My husband was able to get the pen built yesterday and the harware cloth on today! It looks good ~ The door he made is awesome!! - Thanks Honey!!

With further thinking who needs chickens??? We can use the pen for the kids!!! Fill it full of sand a waterer and they should be good for a day!!

We are using the window of the "playhouse" as the pop door, the door isn't made yet, but it will be soon!!! Goodness the kids can fit through - They can even sleep out there!!! I will be sure to feed them once maybe even twice a day!!

The kids loved being able to help paint, they liked that they were able to have hand prints, even if they do only have "2 left hands"
