What is wrong w/ this egg (pic)?

What is up w/ these eggs? My RIR has been given us three eggs so far and they all look like this. There is a halo on one side w/ these little crack like marks around it, almost like a sun. My hubby says it is an extra-terrestrial egg. I don't know. I wonder if she doesn't have enough calcium in her diet yet. I am supplementing w/ oyster shell and eggshells and she gets layer feed, like my other girls.

thats really weird, I can't help you but I was just reading a post about soft eggs, and in it there was a link or 2 that gave information on different problems with eggs, the post shouldn't be too far down the list of tonights posts, gl finding out.
 
Chicken just didn't quite finish the egg's shell--I have had that happen on older birds, usually after their second molt. The egg will be okay although I wouldn't try to hatch it. It may also be an indication that the hen needs a little more calcium in her diet.
 
In civilizations where the sun is worshipped, i'm pretty sure your hen would be up on a pedestal right now. That's pretty amazing.

I would imagine that your rir will get more accustomed to the process, and her body will adjust and stretch and whatever it needs to do, and you will start getting less sunny eggs. In the mean time, i think you should blow them out and save the shells for some kind of cool craft. You'll never see this phenomenon again, pretty much guaranteed!

As to the dusty appearance of the second one, i get that sometimes. I don't know what it means. I assume it's just a lighter last coat of "paint." Or maybe some "paint" in the bloom. Never thought about it too much.
 
I've had some squash come up with a very similar design on the outer skin.......I know it sounds wierd, but who knows.........maybe there's something in the air? the water?
 
Thanks, guys. Well, we ate them (we're not scared) and they were good. Thanks, Beth, for the humor. Maybe I'll try to blow one out. The "sun" is very thin, so I think it must be a calcium issue. It's just weird.

And in all seriousness, i hope your pullet gets her calcium act together and starts laying you normal, unworrisome eggs in short order.
