I just figured this out- $.55 per lb.

But my chickens don't eat all that much. About 3 horse scoops a day for 83 chickens because they range in a large garden, sometimes free ranging outside the garden (they stay in voluntarily basically).

I also have bought some organic layer pellets for $.44 per lb. that I have been cutting the whole grain feed with to lower the cost.

I love my system because they get some real grains, no GMO soy or corn (organic corn and soy), and I LOVE to feed them Real Food.

I feed layer pellets in the morning and scratch at night. Usually offer Oyster shell free choice but it gets knocked over. I have a big bag of grit. And Boss. Should I just start mixing it all up?

I just started mixing my grit and oyster shell up today in with the feed. I figure it's less work than fixing the oyster shell bowl (because it got tipped over and the contents dumped out) almost every day, making extra trips to the garage to fill it. I guess whatever works for you!

As far as protein goes, mixing scratch (about 10% protein usually) in with your layer feed (usually 16% protein) cuts the protein some...so you might want to leave yourself the option of adjusting the recipe. If you mix it all up and their laying goes down, you can't get the scratch back out of the mix.

BOSS is supposed to be about 16% protein, which is just right for layers. (Scratch is a treat.) I hope this helps.
