We ordered the ornamental layer collection from Mcmurray two years ago and included where three salmon favorelles. We have fallen in love with these chickens, they have awesome personality, but there coloring and conformation are not good at all. We lost two of them this year and are looking to get some more. I don't show, and haven't had great luck at hatching shipped eggs, so I would like to get some day old chicks. Although as I said I don't plan to show them, I would like some that look more like what they are suppose to look like, so that I can hatch out chicks for myself and to sell locally, and have good stock even if not show quality. So can any of you show me pictures of any favorelles from other hatchery's? Or any recommendations as to the best place to get them from.

The only picture I have on this computer of the girls.

Natalie she was the closest in color, size etc to what the ones I have seen on here. Still not great though, but I could deal with a flock like her.
The other two had a lot more black, in there muffs, beards and chest, the one we have left has very little cream coloring on her chest at all.

Thanks
Melissa

I think Meyer would be the best one to try if you want to go the hatchery route. I think they're only available in limited supply this year, but check with them.

I purchased from Meyer and Cackle (both only once). The Cackle birds were by far the best. The hen in my avatar is from Cackle. I'm sure they were not up to show standards but they were all really attractive. I had one with out a beard/muff but she made up for it by being the friendliest chicken.

I only have two now, a hen and a rooster. They were my first chickens and I lost a few to predators and few when they insisted on flying over the dog fence, even with clipped feathers.

I'm not knocking any hatchery, I use several every year, but it's been several years since I've gotten ANY decent faverolles from any I've used. Have ordered from Ideal, Mt. Healthy, Cackle, Welp, Meyer, McMurray and seems like someone else, getting old, can't remember. And just right off hand I couldn't tell you which ones I ordered Faverolles from or what year.

The last decent hatchery (And I typed decent, not SOP) faverolles were from McMurray about 10 years ago. Their stock has went WAY down in quality since then though. I truely can't recommend any of them for anything like quality stock. All ours look like crosses between an easter egger and a Faverolle. Very poor coloration.

Personally, I'll be looking for a breeder here on BYC with a good reputation for this next spring's birds.

Good luck.

Try sandhill presevation. If not them then go with cackle. I would try asking for a breeder over on the faverolle thread. If I was NPIP I would think about shipping you some. I loved Cackles service and the birds I got from them but out of 20 only 3 were close to sq. Their birds looked better than most hatcheries I have seen.
