Buddy of mine who lives a mile or so away finally stepped up and decided that maybe he should upgrade his coop. Actually I think his wife maybe decided that his craptastic shipping crate coop needed to go but I digress.

I gave him a rough materials list, he prepainted all the plywood before we started, and we locked ourselves in the shop for the day.

Latch detail. This may get a revision before we're done but it works pretty good right now. All total this took the two of us just under 12 hours to get this far. Still need to add some winders, and build the base that it will set on. Hope to get this thing wrapped up this weekend in a few short hours.

Beautiful workmanship! It's going to be very easy to clean with those two wide doors that open up on one side.

But where's the ventilation? And with no windows, it's going to be so dark in there the chickens may not want to go inside at night.

Looks good, but needs about 8 square feet of ventilation.

Perhaps you could open up one of the ends and make it all hardware cloth.

Great job! Maybe you can cut out the top section of each side, a long rectangular strip at the top of one side and a square in each door on the other side covered with hardware cloth to create some ventilation.
