I found a steal of a deal at Sam's club.

While shopping at Sams today I noticed a very nice cedar playhouse. It is approx. 6'x6' and cute as can be. It costs $ 299.00. Screen on the windows and a floor of wire or plywood and you have a very nice little chicken house. I would put tyvec or visqueen on the inside walls as it is not air tight by any means. It sure does beat doing all the labor from scratch. I build two 4x8 coops last year and I am not looking forward to doing it again this year. I am going to be there again tomorrow to make sure I get one of these and DH can haul it home on Monday.

That is what I was thinking but I brought home one of those tickets you take to the cashier to check out and pick it up at the loading dock. The picture in the add says shipping included so I would guess that make a big difference in price but, I don't want to take a chance so I will be there tomorrow. I don't know why I did not just buy it today. Actually there was lots of commotion with grandkids but still.....
 
I thought the same thing Justusnak. But I don't know a whole lot about chickens yet, I'm still learning.

I haven't seen any posts lately about those playhouses from Lowes. Guess they stopped selling them so cheap. I've searched all the Lowes in Richmond, VA and areas surrounding, cannot find any stores that even carry them. Not even in Baltimore! I just got 6 chicks yesterday and would love to have a new coop for them so I don't even have to mix them in with the 3 hens I already have.
 
Cedar shavings are not good for chickens due to the oils and dust. It irritates of the lungs. I am not worried about the chickens in this as the walls will be covered with Tyvek or Visqueen or possibly the pink sheets of foam to prevent drafts and leaks. The little unit is made of
1x4's and there is daylight where they join. One could cover the seams with lath but I like the idea of insulation. It gets hot here in summer and the winter is cold.
 
So cute. It would be nice if you could put it up on a tall foundation so you wouldn't have to bend over, etc.
 
If you use any kind of foam insulation on the inside be aware that they will pick it and tear it apart over time. Most likely ingesting some it too.
 
You are right Miss Prissy, but I tried the Pink Sheets and they have a bonded type of material on them. So far the chickens have not pecked at it. I put it in the new coop in November and so far they have left it alone. Some of the girls were the same ones who destroyed is quick order the regular foam panels I used in a previous coop.
