Working on our first coop here in Georgia.... We decided to place the coop in an area in the lower yard where we once had discussed building an aviary. It's nice and shady, next to a privacy fence and there's a small stream running on the other side of the fence.
This is what started it all:
Getting started digging holes for the 4x4's...
The base of the coop. We decided to make it 4 by 8 to minimize the cutting required:
Coming along:
My partner is a roof and truss design engineer but I work in health care and at age almost 60 learned how to build and put up roof trusses:
After the trusses were up, we ran hardware cloth over the entire roof.
Yet another trip to Lowes for more wood (and more nails, and Tuftex panels and........10 percent off coupons purchased through ebay are very useful!) I wondered if they could hear us nailing over at the Masters Golf tournament (our subdivision backs up to the Augusta National).
Finally the clear Tuftex panels are added:
The back of the coop with the primer and the finished roof:
Final color on the top panel (color matches that on our house:
Gail
