UK Members Please Say HI

It's so frustrating isn't it! I'm realistically down to one very elderly bantam who might sit, she did a brilliant job last September, but I'm worried she might get ill and die on me before I can replace her. My only other two are the leghorns she just hatched, so I'm not pinning my hopes on them - I need to get myself some suitably broody breeds soon, or else I'll be hunting for an incubator!
My silkies do like to go broody, but decided to sit through the winter when there was nothing to hatch!

My Brahma hens occasionally go broody, they’re great mothers. I have a random welsummer that likes to go broody, but I don’t trust her with eggs at all (welsummers often abandon their young, it’s really rare to get one that goes broody).

Maybe my marans pullets themselves will give it a go.

Oh I'd love to say yes to this, but none of my hens are ready to go broody yet :(
I'd love to say yes, but I have a slightly ridiculous self-imposed rule about not getting any other barred or cuckoo breeds :lol: Officially it's to make it easier to work out whose chicks are whose (I already have Barred Plymouth Rocks) but it's really just a made-up excuse to stop getting more chickens.

(their legs are different colours…)😂

No that’s understandable, I want my different breeds to fill out my desire for certain patterns, so duplicating one wouldn’t make sense.

Literally seconds after I wrote that, someone I'm meant to be hatching some Shetlands for next month messaged me to ask if I'd thought of keeping Barnevelders or Marans as they like the egg colour :lau I've asked if they're interested for themselves - might PM you an enquiry if they say yes...

I have a surplus of English dark cuckoo Marans hatching eggs, if anyone would like some
Like others here I depend on broodies, so the timing is what suits them; do you expect to have some later in the year? My broodies usually prefer late spring and summer sittings.

I have ten young pullets, so should have eggs all year. If it were even later (like right at the end) I could offer more variety of marans probably.
Feel free to contact me anyway.

I also rely on broodies, luckily my silkies and Brahmas go broody frequently enough.

Great news for people whose chickens range freely

Good for the chickens and sheep in the UK. It helps to avoid accidents with people and other dogs (on a leash) too, who are quite common around here. LOL, what a family name this guy has. I wondered, is he proud of it or isn’t it possible to change an awkward last name in the UK.

I don’t think such a law will arrive in our country because of the sentiment about dogs here. About every time sheep get attacked people try to blame the wolves who settled in our country a decade ago. The governmental institution only tests DNA to establish it was a wolf if a farmer wants to claim the financial damage. Dogs are more than pets to many people over here.
