Hi guys!

i know i've made many threads about making new breeds, but this one is serious.

i will be incubating the first 3 barnyard mix eggs that will be the base of the breed.

Characteristics of the breed i would like:
Good egg laying
good exhibition bird
black (of course)
at least somewhat good in confinement
cold hardy
docile

i'm starting with my Black Sumatra cockerel and my GLW pullet so i can give it a longish tail, good egg laying, and a walnut comb for cold hardyness

i'm thinking of adding light brahma in there later

oh, also, the reason for only incubating 3 eggs, is because thats the highest amount of eggs i could get my dad to let me incubate

you're welcome to join in if you want

Maybe some australorp in there? That would give you the black and the egg-laying gene. Breed australorp to the sumatra/GLW cross... just brainstorming.

you have an idea there

but the only thing is, i'm not sure where to borrow one. i don't have one right now. i think some of my friends at school have some, maybe i could just borrow them for a while once i hatch the chicks and they grow up

Good idea! Or just collaborate with a friend. Like, if the friend has an Australorp hen and you have the Sumatra/GLW roo, put them together in a breeding pen for a few weeks. Collect eggs, incubate. See what you get!

Good luck on you project, but if you want the breed to last, you will need to use more parent birds for genetic diversity and breed more. Keep us updated.

i guess your right.

thats why it would be helpful if i could get some help. i ain't forcing anyone, but it would be good to get some help

I understand, I am also working on a project of creating a cold hardy breed with a cushion comb. They also lay blue/green eggs.

cool

maybe we could merge our breeding though

like, we figure out what characteristics we both want and then come up with a breed that has characteristics that both of us want

what do you think?

what do you think?

Here are what breeds I am using to create them: Easter Eggers, New Hampshires, Wyandottes, Silkies, Buff Orpingtons, OEGBs, Barred Rocks. Light Brahma. I have around 25 eggs in the incubator right know and have quite a few chicks hatched the 15th. Many of the chicks from this hatch will be mostly blue or black.
