Rock Hen with swollen wattle - falling down!

Hi all - my 1.5 year old hen has been stumbling and falling on her right side. I examined her legs and there seemed to mbe no joint swelling, pain, cuts etc. I then noticed her right wattle below her right ear is swollen. Her left side is fine (see pictures and video). She seems to not be in pain but she stagers to the right side and falls a lot. She can recover and get up but I do not know what it is or how to treat it. She is eating fine and is the same vocal and acting hen I have known. In short it seems to not be a bother yet.

Please look at the pictures and videos and let me know what you think my next action should be. I am ok to treat with drugs but which one and where do I get it? Thank you all in advance. I am very worried and concerned. Thanks.

It could be but I have not been down this road - I guess I need to know to treat - with meds (antibiotics) , drain it, topical treat (blu-kote) etc.

When you look at face swelling it's always creepy things like infectious coryza or fowl cholera. With the stumbling makes me think Newcastles (ugh, I don't want to be bringing these awful things up...just brain storming). It could be an ear infection. Either way you're probably looking at administering antibiotics.

Unless it's an injury.... But waiting and seeing is tough. With birds, the sooner the better.

Which antibiotic would be a broad spectrum for a laying hen that would not be bad to anminsiter now? This has probably been going on now for a couple of weeks. If it is an injury what could I use topically? Thanks - keep the info coming!!!
 
Lord knows I'm not a vet, but a Sulfa based antibiotic is what you'd use for fowl cholera. Might just kick out some other bacteria at the same time. Don't forget to follow up with a probiotic to get her gut flora back in shape.

If she's been like this for a while, I doubt its an injury. The swelling would have gone down by now, unless she's harboring an infection, in which case a vet visit would be best. But if a trip to the vet isn't in the cards, I'd mosey to the feed store and find a Sulfa med.

Keep her quiet, lessen her stress. The Sulfa meds usually work quickly and you're not suppose to give them beyond 5 days so at least you won't be wasting 10-14 days to see if it works for her.

Hey everyone - I thought I would follow up with a note. I have read, and read, and read about all this and never did find an exact match. However I did find a flow chart that helped (below). I called the local feed store and purchased a wide spectrum antibiotic feed and some vitamins for the water. The best advise was to treat as a sinus thing.

I went home and did a full clean out of the coop, dusted for mites and changed all the floor pine shavings and all the under the coop area. I added the vitamins to the water and started the feed. She seems fine except for the falling down. The bulge is still there but it seems to not be painful. I noticed she has a bit of runny poo.

For all - here is the flowcharts I found that was helpful. It helped me make a decision of what to do since I could not nail it down.

One last thing I read was to NOT give sulfa drugs to a laying hen. I believe it is the passing on through to the eggs. I will NOT be eating any eggs for a couple of weeks AFTER I have stopped treatment.
