This "little guy" is 6 weeks old, and has been trying for the last week to find his voice..and OH my...at 7:00 AM this morning, let me tell ya...he found it! He is the funny little watch dog of my meat "flock" and guess he decided to enforce his status with a little crowing. Unfortunately his new voice might just move processing day up for everyone! Troublemaker!! I know a lot of people do not like these guys, I read a lot of how dirty and awkward they are etc...but I gotta say, though I'll have no problem processing them, I really like these guys. They're entertaining. Especially the way they go running when the big bad alien (Me,) that they have never Ever seen before (Only every day for almost 6 weeks) comes out to feed them and water them....they run (yeah yeah...waddle, I know) off, screaming and cheeping like they're afraid for their lives.... Hmmm... maybe they are smarter than we think....

Thanks! They are free ranged all day, 7AM to 9PM. At night, they have a 5x5 tractor that they sleep in, but besides heading in for some shade (they prefer the trees tho) they really only use the tractor for sleeping. They always have access to food and water, but don't seem to eat quite as much food as i thought they would. They are pretty decent sized already, and with 10 chickens (I lost one runt last weekend

..so down to 9) we have only gone through maybe 75 lbs of feed. I was expecting 120+ lbs or so of feed by the 8 week mark (12 days from now), and maybe we'll still get there, but I don't think so. If they dress out to size and I don't go through all that feed...yippee!!!

What kind of chickens are they? Hubby and I are thinking of trying maybe 2 meaties... just to see if we can do it, and how good it is. We have other chickens that are PETS... and we would never eat. I would so like to try to grow our own meat.

We want to have some Red Broilers, but we live in town, not supposed to have roos. and can only get them as straight run. I'm on the fence whether to roll the dice or not & risk getting a Little Mr. Big Britches of my own.

Really nice looking birds!
