How many birds will live in a 8*10 coop? They only live in the coop at night, during the day they have free range.

If you live in an area that gets snowy winters - keep in mind that, free range or not, your birds will spend quite a bit more time inside (partly due to snow - partly due to short daylight hours), so what seems ample 9 months of the year can get cramped pretty quickly during those other three months - so plan for as large as possible.
Of course if you're in an area with really mild/no winters, you could most likely get by with a little less than the min. 4 sq. ft. recommendation.

who ever made those rules doesnt realley know what a chicken is i have 14 birds in a 4x8 coop and a 10x10 run they are fine im going to get 6 brs as well you could probly have 6 or 7 in that coop if you dont have a run if you have a run like mine you could have like 20-25 maybe more just see what they do
My coop isn't big enough for the birds I have, at least not the floor. Having enough roost space is more important, spending nearly all their time out and away from the coop is also important. They go out when they wake and go in at dark, no point of having a ton of floor space if they rarely use it. Winter their fully enclosed run has a tarp top and plants make a wind break, so no point in mine being inside. They even stay out under there when it's raining.
