NOTE: this thread is NOT the 'Official' Octagon 20 Eco thread.

This thread you are now viewing was started as a 'feeler' to see if members would like such a thing. Since the replies seemed to be 'YES', that thread has been started, BUT IT IS NOT THIS ONE.

The official one is called 'The Official Brinsea Octagon 20 Eco Thread'. Join us there!!!!!!!

Here it is!

kinda like the breeds section; so that those of us who have them can keep in touch and share experiences.

even if the thread may at times become hard to follow and get 100,000 posts.

i think so much the better.

if you have questions, put em here:

if you ever hatch using one, put that data here, also.

etc. etc.

we could all subscribe to it, maybe................

But i bet Eco 20 owners may not see this very post; nor may many or any be really interested.

at any rate, that's my thought, and i think it could be a good one.

too bad ALL incubators couldn't have their own 'breed' thread. i think it would help in several ways.................

I am currrently considering buying one next year. Once my husband retires from the Army and we move to KY. I d like to have some input since i am done with the styro-bators

I agree! I am current using mine for the first time. I have never used another brand so I have no comparisons to make, but I find it very user friendly.

I bought it last January and have had 3 successful hatches. It has been packed away since the Easter hatch, but digging it out today.

I'm useing one right now and I'm getting ready to set me first paint silkie eggs in it on monday! OHHHH I pray they hatch!

I have one and love it! Here's a few thoughts off the top of my head:

I never adjusted the temperature, just used it on the factory setting. The built-in thermometer reads a bit high, like 100.5, but for the first hatch, I decided not to make changes and the babies hatched right on time, so I think the factory set temp is right and the thermometer reads wrong. I could back that up by using a properly calibrated thermometer, but I just haven't yet. I've used it for several hatches now and I'm happy with it.

I live in a relatively humid state, but this incubator can suck down some water. I have to add water every 5-6 days to keep it from running dry and keep the humidity where it should be, even for "dry-hatching." At Day 18, I usually put a washrag in the bottom to help the water cover more area and raise humidity high enough.

It cleans SO easy. I love that the whole thing fits in my sink and wipes right off.

I don't like the "rails." Eggs vary in size so much, it's hard to adjust the rails so that ALL the eggs fit without cracking the big ones and the smaller ones fall over. I'm not talking about the difference between bantam and large fowl, because that's obvious, I'm talking about the tiny differences between eggs laid in my standard pen. I often just use an egg carton, it holds less eggs, but I don't worry about cracked eggs.

I love that the turner is external. I'm famous for forgetting when I set my eggs, so I can't tell you how many times I've had eggs hatching when they're in the turner.

With this incubator, I can just lift the whole thing out of the turner without opening it.

I had a bit of a problem with the rails, until my Mama heard me complaining about it, and said, "Darlin, that is why God invented cardboard."

I LOVE my ECO!

We just set our first batch-after reading all the possibilities of incubators and stuff that happens we almost said 'forget about it'-but the good Lord saw fit to get us a little extra for tires and an incubator

and so we have the brinsea eco 20. For a newbie its awesome!
