Introduction to 'The Official Brinsea Octagon 20 Eco Thread'

Hello across the mountain to Elizabethton

We figured out that if you make one end more narrow than the other end you can put them in smallest to largest. Of course this works better with a full bator

hubby was not amused...

When you use cardboard do you just put it in there like rails? Mine isn't full this run, but I hope to have it jam packed next run.

I have 2 of the eco 20's.. I'm working on my 15th hatch with them now and will have more eggs next week to start hatch 16
so far I have hatched out chickens, quail, ducks, turkeys and muscovys in mine.. never a problem with humidity or temp staying where it needs to be

i adjusted the temp on both of mine (I never go by the glass thermometers).. factory setting was too high on one and too low on the other .. so I went with my already calibrated thermometer and got the temp right midway on an egg.. plus for turkeys and muscovys I drop the temps later on.. so the factory settings never would have stayed the same for me anyway

We have had humidity here between 23 & 26% in the house during the summer.. I found that filling one of the troughs worked fine for chicken and quail eggs
for lockdown I add papertowels wicked down into the troughs and for muscovys and turkeys added some paper towel "balls" soaked in water.. easily gets me to 80-90% humidity for the more demanding critters

never have any issues with the rails.. I fit them to the largest egg and then add bits of paper towels where needed to keep the eggs where they need to be.. never had a cracked egg because of it.. and i LOVE the rails for quail eggs.. if I put them halfway up in the little slots I can stack quail eggs with no problems

I did have one turner die on me this week.. i've written to Brinsea before about it acting up and they said it was no biggie.. then it died .. still haven't heard back from them so I may have to give them a call

The problem with the Brinsea products is... they are soo easy to use that not many questions will arise.

I got mine at the beginning of the year, learned how to do the dry method of incubation, and have never had a problem with the incubator. Shipped eggs are a gamble, but, in the Brinsea, I know those which do not develop had a problem prior to incubation.

At least once a week somebody will post a question wondering if the Brinsea is a good incubator. For them, it would be great to have an active Brinsea thread to refer them too.

love my Brinsea!
Currently have a just hatched chick in there and 7 eggs... I found a hidden nest of eggs, and since the eggs were developing I tossed them in the 'bator. I've all ready removed two eggs that had gone

, so this hatching is all ready full of surprises. (note: the hen who laid the eggs is a red sex-link which loves to hide the eggs, but never goes broody)

Nope, I just use it to fill in the gaps of the eggs that are a little smaller, or a little wobbly. Paper towels work as well, heck, anything! I just roll or twist it until it fits into the gap I have.

*hollers across the mountains to chics n more* HOWDY!

well, i didn't expect so many 'takers'!

just got our third Eco 20 yesterday: three in two weeks!!

all on sale at 99.95 till today at Cutler's..........and STILL have paid way less than would have for the Octagon 40 Adv........etc. etc

BTW, re. the 'built in thermometer':............now i may be misunderstanding the poster and i intensely do not want to be unpleasant, but i think that that may refer to an Octagon other than the one this thread is about. The Eco 20 does not have a 'built in thermometer'.

But I am sure a load of folks would love a whole thread just on the Octagon 20 Advance etc. "breed" !!!!!!!!!!

I think that great machine surely deserves it. And please forgive me if i have misunderstood you. I am not the 'brightest light' out here

blessings to you

OKAY THEN FOLKS, DO YOU WANT ME TO CHANGE THE NAME OF THE THREAD TO:

"THE OFFICIAL BRINSEA OCTAGON 20 ECO THREAD".

DO YOU WANT TO PROCEED WITH THIS SUGGESTION IN THE OP, OR.............maybe wait............

I am having major jealousy issues over your 3! I want another one, just don't know how to break the news to the DH. He stopped speaking to me for a week when I ordered the first one! I guess I better wait. . . . But I really don't want to!
