So I get one what I would describe as a purplish brown egg most days. Since there is only one the suspects are few in my flock of 18.
So I've ruled out the 6 Bantams and the 5 Buff Orbingtons. Then there are the two BR and 2 sex links. I've had two in a day so this is not theirs.
Then there are two Americanas so maybe one of them?

It weighs usually 2 1/8 to 2 1/2 oz. It has a sheen on it that washes off. Which is normal but not usually seen.

They are all about 9 months and older.

Have any of you seen an egg color like that?

you sure you have BRs and not cuckoo marans?

Can you post a picture of the egg? cuckoo marans will lay a darker egg than BRs...I think their eggs also have a sheen like what you are discribing...oh! And maybe some pics of your girls...I think barenvelders also have egg colors like that?

is it dark purplish brown or light purplish brown (kind of pastel)? I ask because I have a sexlink that lays a light purplish brown egg with a sheen (almost a kind of light mauve).

Hi thank you all for your info.
If I can figure out how to post a photo I will do that.

Spiritdance they are a dark purplish brown.

On to see if the photos will cooperate.

Thanks again.

I tried to post a photo of my chicken and the egg.
It didn't work for me. I use Firefox so maybe that is an issue.

Sorry.

Anything about the moran that is different from the Barred Rock that could be checked?

Thank you again.
