Hey all!
I recently hatched a silkie-cochin who is approx. 7 weeks old now.
I have become really attached to her, but I think i'm seeing saddle feathers. I'm really concerned.
She has no comb whatsoever.
Is it possible she could be a he due to saddle feathers?
I will get pics up in a minute, but this is my main Q.

Thanks!

Update:

My little birdie is now 8 weeks old. There are still little to no signs of comb or wattles. However, the feathers are getting me worried. (Please excuse me if i'm overacting, I have a tendancy to do that)
The neck feathers are getting fairly shiny 'rims' around them. They are fairly thin.
This is my favorite chicken and I'm going to be really bummed if it's a boy. I love him/her soooo much!

saddles dont come in until at least 6 months at 7 weeks i think you might be seeing things being so attached and worried that your baby is a cockerel. dont worry so much

i know its hard. try and get some pics up if we cant tell for sure you can wait till s/he is at 15 weeks old.

In this pic, his/her comb looks pinkish, but it's just because of the lighting.

Saddle feathers actually start coming in - to be seen by human eyes - between 12 and 14 weeks. Atleast from what I have experience with my cochins, orps, Ameraucanas, EEs and other mixed birds.

At this age, I see no saddle feathers on your bird.

Silkie combs are really hard to tell. I know some silkie breeders who can tell by the top knot - how it is growing - but I am not sure that holds true to crosses.

You might benefit from editing your title to say Silkie mix gender question.
