So i could live without knowing the breed, i thought leghorn, but im begining to think it may be a rooster. my grandpaw who knows more than i do about chickens suggested it might be a rooster and this morning i heard it crow, a really sad crow though. Big White Chicken seems pretty cool with the 2 little chiks as long as no food is involved, if they so much as look at his food he pecks them realllly hard but once the food is gone they all get along, is that roo or hen behavior? o and its probally a month or 2 months old

How old are the chicks he is standing next to?

Looks like a Cornish X to me

It looks like a cornish cross rooster. It is a meat bird and won't live a very long life. They are super fast growing and their bodies usually fail under stress. Most never make it past 12 weeks. Some live a year or more but this is not the norm. Some do live longer but again it is not common.

man thats sad to hear i really like him, i can see how he would be a meat bird and he grew really fast. how would his body fail? when he dies how will it be, i mean will he suffer or will i just go out one day and find him dead? this is really upsetting, if 12 weeks is the end then he probly has about 6, 5 weeks left.....

He will probably die of a heart attack. You could always cull him at around 8 weeks of age and have a great dinner.

Usually the stress on their hearts cause them to give out. Fine one day and gone the next. You can help extend his life by restricting his food intake and keep him free ranging to keep him exercised and moving.

i doubt i could eat him, i wanted him as a pet and i kinda grew attached to him.

woukld the heart attack be painful?
he only goes in the coop at night, during the day hes free to run around my backyard as much as he wants and he does. he forages with the chickies. this chicken was my friends little brother's, his little brother brought it home from school cause they hatched them there. ( i was like what? why are kindergarderners hatching chickens?) anyway i was halfway done building my coop to get chickens when this chicken fell into my hands so i kept him. later i went to the store and got the two babies 1 RIR and the other one, i dunno, she said it would be white when it grows up but they are def hens she said.
