back part of roo comb turning dark/what is it/PLEASE help

Didn't get out until 8:30 tonight to check chickens. Young serama roo's comb is blackish or purplish on the back part of the comb. Feels kind of funny to the touch. Hard to see, getting dark out. Any one have advice? Help PLEASE!!!!

Check in the morning. A rooster's comb is like a thermostat in a way. It has something to do with cooling the body, at least that's what I've heard. My boys' combs often go dark then lighten up again, several times during the day. It's probably nothing.
 
Thank you all. I normally get home earlier than this and see them before they settle into bed. Got so stinkin worried. panicked a little I think. It's only the back part of the comb though. I have no idea if he has been injured. Been gone ALL day long. Didn't know I could love chickens so much. I'll check in the morning. Thanks again.
 
My head roo (BR) is about five months old and just getting his big beautiful red comb. One minute the tips are all black and a little later they are not. Another time the back part of the comb is black/purple - little while later bright red. At first I thought something was wrong with him or that I was seeing things but I've come to learn that's just the way it is with his comb.
 
My Serama has some dark spots on his comb from one of the other roos grabbing him. Could be that something tried grabbing him...i've seen the roos pull each other around by their combs! Mine did that once...they are getting along better now. Hope its nothing serious! Update us in the morning.
 
didn't have time to post this morning, had to go to work. The temp thing must have been it. All is well in chicken vill now. Thanks everyone!!! sorry I flipped out.
 
i second what ruth said. My roo started doing that after a time he half hearted tried to assert his dominance with me and I promptly grabbed him and asserted my dominance in such a way that he has never tried it again and shows full respect for me at all times. In my ignorance, I may have over asserted. Since then, when I come in the pen, sometimes the back side of his comb goes greyish, sometimes the tips go black, but in fifteen minutes later it is comb color. He might give a hen the eye, and I will sorta give him the signal with a shoulder move or slowly wave an arm and he is off of that thought immediately, but his comb will purple up again. It only happens with the two roos that had to go behind the woodshed for a little tutoring. I can't imagine you would have to do that with a serama, but anyhow, that is my two cents worth.
 
No no,,,he's a sweet cuddle bug. NEVER had any problems with any of my seramas. since it was almost dark out, I think speckledhen and silkiechicken may be right. I'm going out at the same time tonight to take a look, but thanks for the input. all info helps.
