Keeping rabbits and chickens together?

I cannot imagine my rabbits living in the chicken coop. They would be having to hop around in chicken poop and it just seems wrong

I read the bottom link you posted and it sounded like it could easily get out of control

But my rabbits love being out during the day. They have cages of their own though because 2 is enough

I dont think it would work...
i have my buns caged in a shed that also is technically my chicken coop.
the cages have a tarp over them so the buns dont get pooped on, and the chickens roost on top of the cages.
But if the buns werent caged, i could see them eating feathers and chickens in general.
SO.. overall i dont think your idea would work.

I put my rabbits in my chicken run last spring for predator protection, which worked just fine, but unless they had their own dedicated section of coop that the chickens didn't have access to, I don't think i would let them run wild with the chickens. of course, my birds free-range part of the day, so that would be one issue right from the get go.

I have several chicken pens (my breeds are separated) this one includes a large indoor stall and a large outdoor run thats approx 100 X 50 rectangle. At the moment I have 6 silkies in it so its not like its poop covered. I intend to have 20 Silkies total in it eventually...
It has trees, grass, brush, and lots of hay.
LOTS of room to move and get away from each other.

I would like to hear from folks Who have already tried this method and either still use this method or stopped and would share their reason for stopping.

I know it is not for everyone.
Thanks

Why would they need a separate section? Do they beat up on one another? Food fights? Chickens eating hair? Rabbits eating feathers?

Whats my worst issue?

i do it. my goats, rabbits and a few of my chickens share a pen and shelter. there have been some issues, from my reading in the past, with rabbits catching things from the chickens poo, but i haven't had any issues with that. i personally wouldn't house alot of chickens with them. but again it's a space issue. if you have a large area then i think it's fine or keep less chickens or less rabbits. i feel this is like anything else though, everyone is going to tell you bad stuff and good stuff and don't forget the really horrific stories too. so if this is something you want to do then do it. if you have problems adjust the environment until it works. i've never seen a rabbit eat feathers or chicken poo. everyone pretty much avoids each other till bedtime and then it's cuddle city. plus the rabbits come out to play most of the night and the chickens and goats sleep at night so everyone has plenty of room. i have gone out there during the day and seen a turkey sleeping between two rabbits. the chickens keep the bugs and flies down out there too so ya gotta like that. again if you want to do it, then read up on it, and do it. it's not hard to figure out if there are problems and then find a solution.

I used to keep rabbits with my pigeons, It start off fine, but then when the rabbits got bored, they would chew on the pigeons feet.

When I kept my rabbits with my chickens, I had no problems though. I guess it depends on the rabbits themselves.

What did you decide?

How did it work out?

I as well am thinking about this, doing the research now, but thinking later this year or springish next year to get some rabbits.

My current thought would be to provide them with separate hutches/coops but a shared run.
