Keeping rabbits and chickens together?

lol,I had that happen this summer. my mini/mix bred with my flemish giant through the darn fencing. I'm not kidding. but unfortunately her litter of 6 died. (understandably) but you cannot underestimate the mating of a rabbit!! LOL!
My flemmie actually gave birth in the hens coop,.it was quite adorable, but terribly sad when they all died. The mix of size and breed difference was to blame , also, the fact that she never fed her young in the production line where I got her from.

Yeah it was a tough lesson to learn and it will be even more hard when I have to rehome the bunnies. If I could afford $220 a rabbit I'd fix them all and keep them, because I've become attached. Belldandy is 2 1/2 years old and she was originally raised by a breeder alone in a cage. She is super mean when she's indoors, once you put her outside she becomes loveable and sweet. So I moved her out into the coop, since then when I open her kennel she hops out and greets me, follows me around and rubs on my shoes. So when she had babies I decided they were better off with a happy mama outside then an angry mama inside.

Absolutely,I agree! After keeping rabbits inside most of my life , I realize how much better it is for them to live outdoors. Healthier and just makes them happier, in what I've experienced..as long as they're properly cared for and have other animals with them:)

I know this thread is pretty old, but I just wanted to thank you all for the information. My SO and I have been contemplating "saving" our neighbor's domestic rabbit. According to their three children (whom I found in our yard with their unleashed dog), the rabbit "got loose" and they just let it stay out in the yard. We see the poor thing hopping around the yard and on the road all of the time, day or night. I'm not sure if they have shelter for it or not. I'm surprised that it's survived as long as it has with all of the coyotes, hawks, owls, and cars. It's larger and black, I have no idea of the breed. So, we've been contemplating letting it live with our chickens in their coop/run so long as they get along. I assume the chickens would be fine with a rabbit living with them because they get along with our dog and didn't care at all about a dropped off cat (that now lives inside with us) who was hanging around with them while they were free ranging.

Geez, it's a trend. We're stray pet collectors. :p
