Does anyone make these?

I’m looking for one for a Light Brahma hen of mine—she seems to be the “favorite” hen & she’s pretty bald on back. I’d like to find her one that is somewhat waterproof, if possible since she’ll have to wear this until well into the fall to grow back some feathers. I’m hoping this will help her so she’s not 100% bald when the snow hits!

Thanks!

If you know where I can find a pattern, I could make one. I've got a ton of leftover PUL fabric from cloth diapers. It's completely waterproof.

I am making them for my hens right now, I got the pattern off of the internet. I am using one on my Rhode Island Red today, the first one I've made. I made the pattern out of construction paper.

1. Use 2 pieces of denim. Cut a rectangle 9" x 6-3/8" for the saddle.

2. Cut a 1" radius off of two end corners on the 6" side. (inotherwords, just round the corners off of one side

3. On the other 6" side. Measure 2" from each end and mark the 3 sections, all
the way down. (that will leave a 2-3/8" section in the middle).

4. Now, measure 2-1/2" from that corner and mark 2" toward the middle.

5. You will have marked a 2"x2-1/2" area to be cutout. Cut this out, but make sure you round a 1" radius.

6. It'll look something like this Click here for diagram

7. Zig-zag stitch around the perimeter and along those lines you marked in step 3. (the dash lines on the diagram) - dont skip this step, as it helps the saddle hang properly

8.Cut 9-1/2" length of elastic (1/4" wide) and attach A-A B-B

9. Put the hen's head through the center opening between the 2 elastic straps and then put one wing through each of the other two openings so a strap runs beneath each wing.

The one I used is actually more simple, without the head loop, just over the wings. It works great if you use a stiff material:

That's the same one I just posted. How do you like the pattern for your birds? Big enough? Any elastic/wing issues, etc? I should probably sew a few for myself, even though my chicks are just babies. Who knows when I'll have time in the middle of winter... I'll be cutting firewood.

I love the pattern, it's really easy to make with the fold over by putting the elastic in the fold, and using buttons or snaps, whichever you choose. I just used a zig zag stitch on the edge, and I used buttons, so it was easy as could be! I have tons of leftover material around, and I'm going to use purple canvas to make some saddles, so can you imagine a flock of purple canvas covered hens running around? I cant wait!
The pattern can be adjusted to size for your birds, the one I made is perfect for my Rhode Island, I'd make it a bit smaller by taking an inch or so off for say a Silkie or other Banty birds. Larger birds, I'd add an inch or two to it..simple as that! I took it out and sized the straps to my specific bird before I finalized it too. She knew it was coming when I put it on though, she's still pouting.

Thanks everyone! That looks like it will work. It's a BIG hen, though--so I should probably measure her, before I settle on anything...

What's it going to cost me to have one made? I have PayPal & can send money right away...

I can't even sew a button on myself...so I'd rather just pay someone to make one for me.

Thanks!!!
