Where can I buy a reuseable egg tray to store my eggs? Also, I just want to confirm that it's safe to store eggs outside of the fridge?

Eggs can be stored outside a fridge? Is this true? My ignorance but I never heard this before.
 
I just use regular egg cartons. You can keep eggs outside for a few weeks no problem. Just don't wash them if you store them outside. Cant help with where to get non disposable ones though.
 
silkie, I just finished reading a thread on keeping eggs outside of fridge, very interesting but I must admit I would be afraid to do so. Not based on facts...just my own skittishness. ha thanks, that really amazes me. I guess my eggs wouldn't last that long anyway as we eat them up quickly. I do rinse my eggs under lukewarm water before refrigerating.
 
ozark: I have some eggs that have been sitting out for 4 or 5 years now. I wouldn't eat them but they just dried up! Now they wobble around really cool like. You should try it! Trust me, you'll know when an eating egg is no good.
 
We lived on a boat in the Caribbean for two years, and we almost nevery refrigerated eggs. They were not refrigerated in any of the stores, either. IF eggs have not yet been refrigerated, they'll last a couple of weeks, or more, at room temperature. You need to turn the carton over every couple of days, so that the yolks don't settle against the sides, which gives them access to oxygen and speeds spoiling.

Please note that this is only for eggs that have NOT been previously refrigerated.

After a couple of weeks, if you have any doubts, drop the egg in a glass of water. If it floats to the top, it is spoiled (gasses inside cause it to rise). If it remains on the bottom, it's very fresh. If it hovers in the middle, it's old but still edible. Older eggs make the best hard-boiled eggs as they're easier to peel.

OK I was told a long time ago that I could keep eggs in the fridge up to 6 months as long as I turned then every week. Now I have no plans or desire to keep eggs that long but I would like to know if I had eggs in there for a month and turned them would be ok for eating. Does it make a difference between fertilized and unfertilized eggs? Someone else told me resturaunts pay big dollars for eggs that they can leave out. Are those the fertilized or unfertilized? The person who was telling me was saying it was because it was organic and frankly I can't see it being able to sit on the counter because it was organic.
