:lol:Good morning, everyOkie! Looks like summer is back...I guess that's okay - the way things were looking in NEOK with the uncommonly cool weather this past couple of weeks, I was afraid we'd have snow at POOPS!

Teach! Glad you got to hang out with my folks - yes, Dad used to be even taller but he seems to have shrunk these past few years. Whenever we went to crowded places when we were kids, we'd make a plan to "Meet at Dad" when it was time to go. We could always find him over the crowd! The next time I talk to them they'll say "Beth, we had dinner with your Chicken Friend." That cracks me up that they call you that - if they only knew how many wonderful "Chicken Friends" I have!

Morning all.

Ouch Monty that is bad. Im still losing a chicken every now and then to that dang coyote. Do not see the booger when Lynn has the gun.

Had a great weekend at the lake. Yes everybody and their DOG was there.

Only eggs Im hatching now are the OEGB's and the Bantam cochin and all the green eggs I find here. Ive got well as of last night 3 of the EE's that has hatched, have not checked the bator since. Will do that this afternoon. Gotta get the babies that are in the small brooder to the bigger brooder to make room for the new babies..................I know I know been there done that. I do have 1 more Hoop house that is ready for some birds may move the older cochin chicks to that one and move the younger cochins to the condo. Tonight the free range birds are going into lock down and they will no longer free range. Except for the turkeys and guineas.

ok thank you...So i do not need a light in the coop with the mother hen and baby chick?

nnbreeder Les is right (always!) - no need for a heat light for the baby as long as momma is there. I had a wannabe broody hen separated for awhile and she did fine with a quart-sized chick waterer with the screw-on base. She had no trouble drinking from it.

Ok, after church, hanging out with hubby and best friends, and a good nights sleep or two, I am over my pity post! Dang birds....they pulled the dangdest stuff.

Thanks Les for the info....

Al, I don't like shots in the breast because I don't know where the air sacs are and I hear you can kill em by injecting there. I only use the breast if they are really giving me a hard time...then it's jam it in any where I can get a spot! I have never had an issue giving shots...

I am still trying to figure out what to bring to POOPS for food. I have pretty rockin' chili...maybe I will do that. or chicken enchiladas whick I am famous for.

If Teach ain't preaching Sunday morning I ain't singing either....

Other than the hen incident we had a really nice weekend. Went to Wichita Falls yesterday and met up with our friends from Dallas. Had breakfast at the Cracker Barrel....I love the Cracker Barrel. Then we sat at the Subway at Walmart for hours and gabbed. We were tired when we got home, but the good kind....

We have absolutely the most bizarre weather forecast ever.....20% forever....

I got paint at Home Depot. Surprise! Since I painted my dining room, I have to paint my lower kitchen cabinets....it's all one big room and the lower cabinets are the same color as the dining room. When I painted my cabinets the first time I used Behr and didn't have any problems. Then I used Sherwin Williams (way overpriced). The cabinets are sticky, sticky, sticky! I can't clean them. I know I scuffed them up with the sander, but I can't remember if I primed....I'm thinking... I know I primed the top because I went from purple to red. Initially,I had a grape theme so my top cabinets were a dark purple and the bottom a greenish brown. It sounds east LA but looked good with all the grapes. Then I went to red and yellow...less Italy more country...I hate yellow in the house. It is too annoying. my bedroom is yellow, but really soft... this other stuff was really in your face. Mike loved it, but it just ticked me off every time I looked at it. So I did that Burmese Beige everywhere....really neat color. Neutral and looks grey in some light, green in some light and brown sometimes.....but mostly a light grey/green. Don't know why I'm telling you guys all this krap. Anyways I am thinking as I'm writing this that I'm gonna go get a gallon of primer...I tried sanding the old paint off and that didnt work well.....and I didn't want to use a stripper.....ugh! Nasty! Oh well...we shall see.

Al lectured me at Cement about keeping my coop too clean, since I clean roosts and disinfect them. He said that's why my chickens are sick....I hate dirty roosts. I have been scraping them, but not scrubbing them. It is making me crazy! Can't they get enough supply of poop from the yard and floors? Who wants to sleep in their own poo?

Henny! I love your posts - I like that you seem to process some things through writing them out - your paint project, for instance. I'm glad you haven't really given up on your clucks...not that I thought you really would...but I know it SUCKS to lose them and sometimes you wonder 'why bother?'

Dang dogs, Monty. I'm sorry. It's the worst when our own dogs kill our chickens because then we can't hate on our neighbors for letting their worthless dogs run loose...and other members of our family may object if we go "Stimpy" on our own pets.

Thanks all. Life marches on.No time for sadness. Madness yes Sadness No. Well that is 18 less to feed. Only bright spot I can find.

Cammie I don't think you are supposed to feed the medicated to hens that are laying. It won't hurt them but you aren't supposed to eat the eggs.

All spring I wanted hens to go broody and the only ones that did were games. Now I have so called non setters doing it. Leghorns, Marans and an older Orpington that has never tried to set more than a day in her long life.

Henny, I am glad you are better.

"Goin' Stimpy"......I like it! I like it!!

Thanks for thinking of me MOnty...sorry about your birds. My big dog actually drools looking at my hennies over the fence...can ya beat em for drooling? lol....

Well If I shot my wife's Lab for getting in the pen then I would have to shoot my wife and then where would I be.
I'll tell you where.
In the big pen in McAlester.
So I'll just suffer through.

If I was living alone, the only dogs that I would let on my place would be Oscar Mayer. Well maybe some Nathan's too.
