I'm in this terrible situation where my red sex link hen is eggbound. I am 100% certain as I saw half a bloody egg on the ground next to her. She's all puffed up which I've heard helps her balance or something. She expelled some type of mucus from her mouth. I did give her 1 TB of olive oil which someone told me to do that helped their eggbound hen. I put her over some hot water that produced a good amount of steamed and held her for 5+ minutes. I also put olive oil around her vent and with a syringe I squirted some oil in her vent very carefully. She seems to be drinking water but not eating. She just sits all day trying to get that egg out. She was fine yesterday and all of a sudden today this happens. I do supply my chickens with oyster shell free choice and grit. I feed them PUrina layena layer pellets.
I'm going to keep her inside tonight with my portable heater in the same room. She walks only if it's necessary. She seems lethargic. I'm very concerned about her and won't even be able to sleep tonight. I called 3 veterinarians and there completyle booked and I told them it was a life emerecey but they didn't seem to care.

My other chickens appear healthy. She was always kind of a loner though. She is so pretty and she is my favorite, I just wish that she'll get better. I feel so terrible. i'M going to pray tonight that she'll be okay and if any of you would also like to pray I would very much appreciate that.
I better cut this short as I might short circuit my computer with all my tears right now. Yes I am very emotional.

I know I just posted this but If anywhere can help could you please help now as I don't know how much time we have left!

It sounds like you are doing the right things. Type egg bound or egg binding treatment into the search-it should bring up all of the threads regarding egg binding.
So sorry you are dealing with this and I so hope she gets better.

My hen is having the same problem and I read that it could be a calcium deficiency and you are supposed to give her a tums crushed up. I put the tums on some oatmeal and she gobbled it up.

I'll keep my fingers crossed for both of us!

As Of Today She Is Still Alive. One Vet Called Back Yesterday And Told Me To Put A Salted Hot Towel Around Her And Make Sure The Towel Doesn't Get COLD And Keep Doing That. That Would Help Relax Her. He Said The Steam Over Her Butt Was Good Also. And Today He Said I Could Pick Up An Antibiotic For Her That Would Make Sure She Wouldn't Get Infected. Then Another Vet Called And Told Me That They Were Sorry And That They Would Guarntee A Vet Would Call Tomorrow And Give Me Some Advice- that was yesterday so they would call today! He Said Make Sure She's Warm-that's The Most Important Thing! Hope This Info Helps Someone Else. I Didn't Get Anysleep Last Night. I Have This Portable Heater And Ran It For A Few Hours To Keep Her Warm And Kept Putting On A Warm Blanket That I Heated Up In The Dryer And Put On Top Of Her. She Ate A Little Boiled Egg And Drank A Little Water. Today I Mixed In Oyster Shell With Boiled Egg For Added Calcium. I Know She'll Do Better If I Keep Believing.

Duramycin--10 THE VET RECOMMEND THIS. DOES ANYONE HAVE ANY DOSAGE INSTRUCTIONS? IT DOESN'T REALLY SAY MUCH ON THE BACK. I'M THINKING A TB PER GALLON??

I gave her the antibiotics. She's eating and drinking but still no egg. Can someone show me a diagram on where to feel for a chickens egg. I mean on the outside. I put my hand underneath her but can't feel anything, or at least I don't think I did. I just wan't to know how far the egg is. I can't tell if it's an egg or her bone so a diagram would help or specific instructions.

FOLLOW UP-
SHE'S EATING AND DRINKING
SHE POOPED A FEW WATERY MESSES IT LOOKED A LITTLE LIKE EGG WHITE
SHE'S TAKING HER MEDICINE VERY GOOD

PLEASE ANY HELP AT ALL WOULD HELP. I GAVE HER WHAT THE VET INSTRUCTED ME TO DO AND GAVE HER SOME PROBIOS IN HER WATER AND SOME VETRX AROUND HER NOSE TO HELP HER BREATH BETTER
I HOLD HER ABOVE STEAM WATER IN A BOWL FOR 5 MINUTES TWICE A DAY AND LEFT THE PORTABLE HEATER RUNNING A FEW HOURS
I HOPE SHE GETS BETTER. SO IF ANYONE HAS AN INSTRUCTIONS ON HOW TO FEEL FOR A STUCK EGG, PLEASE POST!!! THANKS!

I'M THINKING ABOUT GIVING HER A BATH TOMORROW, AFTER I HEARED SOME SUCCESS STORIES FROM OTHER FOLKS.

I'LL BE PRAYING EVERY NIGHT FOR HER!
