I have 3 Cayuga hens, a Cayuga drake, 3 Pekin hens, and an IR drake. A local restaurant found out that I have Cayugas and asked me to hatch out as many eggs as possible. Out of curiosity, I decided to hatch out some Pekin eggs that I knew were fertilized by my Cayuga drake. I had seven Cayuga/Pekins that hatched out on 4/3. That makes them about 5 weeks old, right? A few days later, some pure Cayugas hatched out. The X's have outgrown the pure Cayugas by leaps and bounds. A couple of weeks ago, I isolated my IR drake and a Pekin hen, because he was starting to fight the Cayuga for breeding rights. My neighbor across the street is going to take them this weekend. In the meantime, they've been keeping the ducklings company.

Last weekend, I let the ducklings outside in the chicken yard. At night, I close them up in the sheep pen with the two adults. Every morning, there's a 'nest' in the corner with a large Pekin egg in it. This morning, I went to let everyone out and there were two small duck eggs in the nest with the large one. I'm baffled. I didn't even know that was possible. I took a picture. Either two of my ducklings are laying, or my adult Pekin laid one big egg and two small eggs overnight.

Here's what the ducklings looked like when they hatched on 4/3:

Here's what they look like now:

For size reference, here's a good pic. The one in the back is the adult Pekin duck. The little one in front is a pure Cayuga, who hatched out on 4/6. The one in the middle is a Pekin/Cayuga X who hatched out on 4/3:

And here are the three eggs that I found in the 'nest' this morning:

LOL! Yep, I'm sure. He's an extremely randy drake, which is why he's going to live with the neighbors. Don't want him fertilizing my Cayuga eggs.
